Hello and welcome to the T-1000 project, assembling a Tau army (and some bits and pieces of Eldar). The goal is to get 1000 points put together, and painted for tabletop by the first month of 2014.

Presently assembled are a Crisis Suit Commander, 24 Fire Warriors, 4 Gun Drones, a Farseer, and 3 Jet Bikes

NIB and awaiting assembly are 2 XV104 Riptides, 3 Broadsides, and a team of Pathfinders (I hear these guys are dope)

Some things are not assembled yet (like the Commander weapon attachments) because I have Neodynium Magnets on order and will make their arms modular to save points.

Thanks for reading, and I will be sure to update when progress has been made!

Best,
R

Update:

We had a wicked Icestorm in the Toronto area this weekend so I am using the time for some painting!

Here is about 5 hours into this Farseer:

C&C Appreciated!

It is shiny because I seal work I have completed with 'ardcoat before finishing it with a Matte.

Thanks for looking!

750/1000 point lists, and a finished Farseer:
Front

and Left

Taken with a Sony Alpha65 camera and 16-50mm 2.8 lens (I know).

It was a truly enjoyable model to paint, I am considering buying a second just for the fun of it. I hope I did it justice. C&C Welcome!
The long term goals are to get some kind of freehand on the cloak, but with so much other work pressing to do this will suffice for the time being.

I also spent New Year's Day putting a list together, and it's looking like this right now:

HQ
Commander
MSSS
PEN
Iridium Armor
Drone Controller
Marker Light Drone

Troops
Fire Warriors x6
Fire Warriors x6

Elite
XV-104 Riptide
Ion Accelerator
EWO

Fast Attack
Pathfinder Team

Heavy Support
Broadside Squad
Broadside with TL HYMP, TL SMS, VT
Broadside with TL HYMP, TL SMS, VT
Broadside with TL Railgun, TL SMS, Target Lock

total: 747

Optional Eldar allies:
HQ
Farseer
Jetbike
Mantle of the Laughing God
Singing Spear

Troops
Windrider Jetbike Squad

Total: 206

The general gameplan is to put the Commander with the Broadsides for the LD buff and monster/tank hunter PEN and ignore cover. At T5 he can also tank krak missiles like a baws. It's not perfect, as there's some overlap between the MSSSand the SMS. The alternative is to pickup the CCN, drop the drones, and stick him with the Riptide. I am also looking into getting more Marklights to field a Drone Squad for BS5 Markerlights. The Eldar provide some late game objective taking power. The Farseer can provide additional rerolls with Guide/Prescience, or go deep into the Telepathy and really clean up. If I field both together I can take a few different Tau options too.

I've also got 2 Crisis Suit teams on order and expect them to arrive shortly. Then the next trick will be to paint it all (after two months of planning I still haven't made a final decision on colour scheme, but it's leaning heavily to a grey nmm/shading technique with orange secondary for contrast.

Thanks for looking! Feedback and CC always welcome.

Best,
R

Great work on that Farseer, the blending on the yellow/gold is epic.

Hi Dakka
I have some WIP shots to update with, and some fluff for the army. I took a few photos of things gathered around my workbench. There is a riptide conversion replacing the little head with an integrated, torso-mounted sensor node. You can see some WIP broadsides, plus a little surprise I'm working on with the Eldar...

The pictures are kind of grainy, but that's because of the low light exposure. A proper lightbox will fix that.

Lore:
During the third sphere expansion a colony force was dispatched to an imperial manufactorium. Armed with the latest in tau jetpack technology and high payload weapon systems, it was devastatingly effective against the unprepared planet. The imperial forces abandoned their posts and retreated, resorting to brutal guerrila warfare to defend their home.

Content with their surface victory, the colonization force signaled back to T'au. Valuable supplies had been commandeered, and reinforcements were expected promptly to reinforce the new stronghold. They never arrived.

Drawn by bloodshed, a warp storm harboring khorn energies had moved in around the system, completely isolating direct access routes and leaving the colonization force to defend itself while the Tau empire decides on the best course of action to recover their lost brethren. Left to their own wits and guile, the colonizers must adapt to the technology of an imperial world. Will the tau colonizers reunite with their comrades of the empire again, or will they be consumed by the warp as they battle with imperial irregulars? Only time will tell...

Enjoy!

It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.
