Hello everyone!! I have been debating on a few armies to commit to and have decided with the Necrons! I really want to ask for advice and choose a scheme with something that will keep focused on that scheme and not spend extra money if I do not need to. Now I see a lot of things online to "speed paint" them or just dry brush them silver, not that these are bad but I am wanting to do a little more. Along with this I want to focus on using an airbrush to do it! I know the airbrush will help with their tanks and fliers, but what about the infantry like warriors? I have used an airbrush before on space marines so I have some experience on the matter, but I am getting a new one soon (hopefully some what higher range;D)

As for colors I have seen white based Necron armies with Rust effects added to them, this is a very cool effect and would love to hear people's ideas on going about this.

Another Idea is the typical black and green on the vehicles but maybe making all of the lines glowing with a light airbrush added to it?
Also I would like to paint the warriors black like the vehicles as well and high lite them green is another idea, although I do not know if this is practical.

I also did not mean to bash Silver necrons because my third idea is essentially what the you tuber StrikingScorpian did with his "classic necrons" I think the way he does his all silver army doesn't look rushed so if anyone is familiar with his work something like that i have considered as well! Just maybe adding some other dynamic to make the necrons more appealing . My idea is follow his tutorial, but adding a lot more of the glowing green, like in between necron warriors ribs maybe the spine?? And is that something that could be done with an airbrush

To put it short because I know I ramble while typing on here I am looking for army theme ideas that are not too hard but are still interesting, and I good way to utilize an airbrush.

WAAAAAAAAAGH!!

Ah, the Necron dilemma... I once knew a guy (back when the necrons were just pewter miniatures with very little variance) who just ink washed them and then polished them with a wheel or something. Didn't look too bad considering....

Anyway, this is pretty classic. Using the airbrush to get quick smooth effects would be nice. There are a lot of black and silver necron armies, but if you just take a look at video games and other media, there are a lot of ideas there as well. A light brown is often used or even greens as their base color to seem more military-like. They are also practical colors that make some sense, as would grey.

Perhaps just doing a light brown (like snakebite leather or leprous if those are still the names) and doing a bit of shading and highlighting to give them more depth... then adding the exposed metal effect. Add in the various light effects you are talking about and you could have a nice combination. I would move away from the green lighting effects and go with a blue or red, though, with red probably working better with the brown color scheme. Skip the metal effect and go for a more ceramic style. Lots of armor stuff is being made with ceramics and cloth these days....

Or, if you're pretty good with that airbrush, you could always go nuts and use a stencil to create a carbon fiber look and then add blue light effects. =)

If you look in my gallery, you can see the scheme I used. Looks very different from traditional crons.

I have come to a decent conclusion! I will be going a bronze then silver to give a rust effect. First I will try this dry brushing, but then with an airbrush. I think I will go crazy on the osl on all the models. The issue I'm facing now is one I need a much better compressor then what I have now to get the consistency , and two I am not familiar enough to pick a new airbrush that won't be too think ( like for only base costing) or two thin (meaning it will only do extreme detail then again maybe that is what I need for the osl?

From all that I can find about needle sizes I think I am going to get a badger sotar 2020. It comes with a .25 needle along with another size. But I thinks this should be good for doing osl?? If anyone has any tips on this brush and maybe a pretty decent compressor that would be so helpful.
