So in trying to figure out the best way to feature a giant robot in my necron army and keep the army as tourney friendly as possible. I run a wraiths/barges/fliers list. I am kit bashing a big Necron riptide/dreadknight thing and want to use the best allied rules to go with him (I'm quite up for making scarabified zombie fire warriors or Marines or whatever). The question is: what would create the best synergy with my own list and how to make him most effective.

Thoughts so far:

Riptide (to buff commander or not buff commander?)
Dreadknight
Use Tesseract Arc rules and drop an annihilation Barge (boring?)
Something else with a BIG GUN

If you go with the riptide, you could always kitbash a specialized cryptek for a buff commander...

I was thinking of doing a sort of spider, Cryptek thing. And then scarabified fire warriors? It's a lot of points to sink into a half decent ion accelerator. But it does give you something the necrons can't do normally...

You don't need to ally a to field a Giant Robot, just do what this guy did.

Holy...that thing is awesome. I might have to make myself a Riptide...saves yourself some 40 odd dollars too... Well now, cheap Tau anyone?

I like that one (he plays it as an Annihilation Barge, I believe). And this one:

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2013/11/showcase-necron-riptide-by-mr-chaos.html

Which this guy plays as a Riptide. I suppose I like the idea of making something HEAVIER, and less expected on the table when playing a Necron force. And I like the idea of a small mind-shackle scarab controlled zombie troop thing.

Seems like the only way people make their 1500 necron build better at 1850 is by piling in more wraiths. All the extra flyers of a spammy list just get kinda on top of each other maybe.

I've thought about using guard and making the Giant Robot thing be played as a Leman Russ (Executioner perhaps?), make my allies Guard and put a small Vet unit (all zombified) along with a Necron kitbashed Cryptek as a Primaris Psyker at a Quad Gun and Aegis, casting presience and another Divination power.

Its a bit cheaper than adding and buffing a Riptide (and troops etc), but maybe not quite as much fun to play. I'm warming to the idea of the technomancer Cryptek though...

It is definitely NOT a cheap model, btw. He caned an Annihilation Barge, Trarch Stalker, bits from a Ghost Ark AND two Tomb Blades to make it.

OK

Don't kid yourself, you're trying to find an excuse to use a Riptide.

Ha. Maybe you're right every other way of running it seems less fun... Last tourney I was at there were three armies with riptides in. None of then placed. But they do look like fun, because they kill tonnes of stuff...

But I could field one as a LRBT and it would defo give Necron army something they don't normally have... Maybe then I'd get less grief about fielding it.

Well, I'd consider a Transcendental C'tan and give him both hellstorm templates. Ouch!

Can you field that n a regular game of 40k though? :-(

This is form a tournament early next year.

I doubt a tournament would allow escalation, especially when it just came out. But in a normal game now, you can bring the monster.
