We are doing a charity tournament and its my second one, and her first. I've been battling with this one and its down to:

Flyrant w/Devourers

10 Termagant
1 Tervigon

12 Gargoyles w/adrenal and toxin
12 Gargoyles w/adrenal and toxin
12 Gargoyles w/adrenal and toxin

Trygon Prime

My alternative was dropping Trygon for Zoanthropes/Hiveguard/More gargoyles. But I feel like he can be a either a bullet magnet or a tank killer w/synapse, depending on which threats the opponent is smart enough to go after. The gargoyles cant be ignored, by most any army. Do you guys feel this is a good decision or am I better off with more bodies on the field?

On to her list:

Farseer w/singing speer

8 Dire Avengers in Wave serpent w/holofields scatter lasers and shuriken cannon
7 Dire Avengers in Wave serpent w/holofields scatter lasers and shuriken cannon

Crimson Hunter w/exarch, Bright Lances and pulse laser

5 Swooping Hawks (One exarch)

Fire Prism w/Holofields

Her list I can see both working and not working. We tried to get a wraithguard list but theres just too few bodies on the field I think.

It's worth pointing out that its a Charity tournament, and you get a re-roll for each toy you bring in for donations to Toys for Tots (Up to a max of 3). I think she plans on saving them to make sure her Crimson Hunter comes in from reserves. I'm using mine
to make sure Tervigon doesnt menopause too fast or that Flyrant stays alive.

Also, we are both new, especially to competitive play. What can we reasonably expect to encounter in the 1000 point market? I can see Tau having multiple Riptides, Necron flier lists. Are Space Marine's going to be effective at that level?

EDIT: Not a double tournament BTW, we are playing solo.

Well for the nid list:

I would go for 2 flyrants with devours, thats enough twin linked strength 6 shots to glance most AV to death and then murder the unit inside.

I don't like gargoyles much, my friend uses them and IMO
your better off with more squads of gaunts for objective camping, or go for a small unit of yimgarl steelers to murder agies camping armies.

For the Eldar have 2 x5 man units in serpents (avengers shouldn't need to do anything but grab last turn objectives),
with the points save from avengers add 1 more man to the hawks unit making the grenade pack a large blast.

I personally think a 1k Eldar list would be like this:

Hq- farseer with jetbike/Mantle- 155

Troops- avengers x5 in WS with SL/HF- 200
Troops- avengers x5 in Ws with SL/HF- 200

Fast- Crimson hunter with exarch- 180

Heavy- fire prism with HF- 130
Heavy- fire prism with HF- 130

This list is 995 points it gives you the ability to tank so the nids can survive to hold objectives, you will murder any AV
with the prisms/hunter, and slaughter gunlines with serpents.

Remember to thin smart, against drop pod lists never expose rear armour, against gun lines if its guard kill tanks first then sit back and serpent shield the infantry to death,
Also kill any AA guns they have so the flyrants will be safe!

In general...In any dubs tournament that you play tyranids...you are there to own the objectives.

The eldar should have min troops and maximum firepower.

Swooping Hawks need to be a unit of 6 to get the big grenade.

Any tyranid unit with a 6+ needs to be at least 15 models or it will get neutered.

The exarch in the hunter isn't necessary with a flyrant out there.

Definitely use your rerolls for the Tervigon and the Hunter...or farseer psychic powers.

General tactics...tyranids swarm the center of the board...Eldar...pick off the units in the corners from a distance.

I should have clarified, its not a doubles tournament. We are both playing (hopefully not against each other!)

Then you definitely need more termagants, and a zoey or two.

Tervigon needs adrenal glands and toxin sacs. A big unit of gargoyles could be nice too.

Her list...still lose the exarch, get another hawk

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you insist on using small gargoyles units...you'd better run a venomthrope though.

I had the Venomthrope idea, but he is such an obvious initial target that even one unit of shooting can take him down and then proceed to fire on the gargoyles.

I could mass the Gargoyles into two units, but Im not sure if I want to cut down on target choices. I've had to do some soul searching on that.

She can field a Wraithlord if we cut down to 5x2 dire avengers and no Hawks. She only has one Fire Prism, but she could add a Wraithlord with Scatter lasers and bright lance.

I;ve had a venomthrope die in one game ever...nobody kills that buddy...and he is so easy to hide. (and decent in a multiple assault)

Does she have any war walkers? They could be worth considering?

yes they could. as it is her list is decemt but a few fine tunings and its great. 1st, sear has nowhere to go that works well. Get her a bike and mantle of the laughing god, and its great. i would drop dire avengers down to 5 man each, and add another hawk to get the big bang. If you can fit a fire prism in there i think it would do better than a wraithlord, especially combined with your wave serpents.

I do drugs.
Mostly Plastic Crack, but I do dabble in Cardboard Cocaine.
