I run a pretty Mech Heavy imperial guard list, and Im looking to add some new models to my army. But I want character, I initially looked into Missionarys but there the complete opposite of what my army is going for.

Then I came across the Techpriest and Servitors, I have some ideas on what i could swap out and in and the priest could literally be a frontline medic(for tanks) and also have some serious firepower along with him.

Im in love with the models more than anything, and I know full well people on gonna burn down my joy

But I want your opinions/views on when they can be useful. And what makes them not as poor as people make out.

I give my full servitor squad plasma cannons, put them so the priest is behind the executioner tank (which also has plasma cannons on the side) for a HP regenerating mega plasma tank with a few more plasma blasts to add to it. I dont do it often as its pricey but its cool to do.
