So I'm testing out a color palette for my Blood Angel Scouts. On the left for reference is the old Rogue Trader Era Scout with the classically garish "Red Plate + Light Fatigues" I see on 90% of the BA scouts out there - on the right, my attempt at a grittier, night time ops Blood Angel Scout. The last thing I plan to add is a tiny Blood Drop mark on one of the shoulders. I have always felt scouts shouldn't be screaming their chapter's colors all throughout their armor. Thoughts/suggestions?

Definitely the one on the right. As you note, scouts are supposed to be forward infiltration and recon troops. You cannot do that in bright armor in garrish color schemes.

Not a lot of use for a sniper who dresses to stand out.

I dig the color scheme, although I'm kind of iffy on the reasoning. I'd be bang alongside the idea if he actually had a sniper rifle, but the shotgun doesn't really convey 'stealth' to me. In any event, I have a squad of BA scouts for an allied detachment that haven't been painted because I dislike the normal scout scheme for the army. I may steal your palette, since it looks so good! Assuming you don't mind, of course.

^^ Don't mind at all, I'd be stoked to propagate this color scheme! Lol, i do agree shotguns aren't "stealthy", but this guy was a test model built with spare parts from my bitz bin. Seeing the results, I think I will be applying this to the Snipers.

I don't care for the official scout heads either (except on the older metal scout models), stole the idea for swapping in the Marine heads off a recent GW (Mark Bedford's BAs I think?).

I like the one on the right, I think it just needs some brighter grey highlights.
I think that a darker colour scheme on scouts is nice, either dark deep red, dark greens and dark grey are my favorite colours for scouts.

I toned down my scouts for exactly the same reason my marines are bright purple. Not exactly fitting for recon and sniper work. My scouts were black, with dark purple, and a toned down chapter symbol.

Your scout looks great.
