Hi guys

I brought the new tau battle suit commander about a month ago. Now I was already annoyed that I have to mail order the main HQ in my army and that it would take a week !! Anyway It was delivered and I was super excited until I got home and opened it dear god it was ghastly !!

Anyway to cut a long story short 4, yes FOUR !! replacements later I still don't have a decent one a month later ! >:|

Is it really this bad of a material ??

My experience of it has been fine bar one wolf banner dude who had a few issues with...holes. We have to assess what your subjective expectations are? For example, are you classifying easily removed flash as a quality issue when that is to be expected with a material like this?

It isn't like plastic, and in the majority of cases it won't look as clean as a plastic model when you first dig it out. Requires a bit more prep-work and for that you get a material that carries greater detail (supposedly I struggle to tell the difference really).

Back in the day, we were epic Space Vikings with horns, and beer, and stupid mockney accents, and we didn't have any truck with this flying around like a pansy shizzle. We certainly didn't surround ourselves with mangy animals.

Now we're basically the Bestiality Chapter.

We also now ride chariots and employ daemonic dreadnoughts...also, we fly and teleport with abandon. With wolves.

I think that if there's lots of bubbles that's a problem, but after 4 replacements you might want to just consider using it.
If recesses are filled you might just have to deal with that because it can't be perfect which sucks I know but I'm sure it will be fine.

Lots of people hate fine cast, I think it's alright minus the price haha
So bottom line if you have one with no bubbles but some filled recesses just take out the hobby knife and file and fix it up that's what I would do

I've already decided to keep the next one aslong as its not too bad. I probably could have built a decent one from all the ones I've had lol

But I won't be buying finecast again !!

Have they made you send the original back to them every time, or have they sent replacements to "right" the situation?

I had heard that they had sorted most of the problems with finecast, but i guess there will always be some exceptions.

I only bought finecast once (very early) and after they all fell to bits in the blister i gave up

Got one, way after issues were considered "fixed", was absolutely terrible. Miscast and bubbles galore. Had it replaced once, the new one had a bubble so large it literally had cut the handle of the axe for my engineer in two. Axe was just lying there, a top half and a bottom half, both with a beautiful semi circle bubble at the end.

I just gave up and have not touched finecast since. If I were a company like GW and I released a product like Finecast, I'd be ashamed of myself. To the point where I'd cry in my pillow and refuse to show my face.

I much prefer the resin my communist friends use to the gak from GW. Worth mentioning that I prefer the new restic formula from Mantic over resin now too, doesn't suffer from being brittle and is much cheaper. Plastic > all though, especially given the detail WGF have managed to get from it lately.

Thankfully it seems GW is moving away from it slowly witht he plastic character kits they've been bringing out. They're horribly overpriced for plastic though, so GW really can't seem to do anything right.

Yep, that's what happens with finecast. It's expensive garbage aimed at the 12 year olds who don't care about the quality of their models and probably abandon the hobby within a week and dump it all in the trash. Even when you get the unimaginably rare model that has been properly cast the material is still awful. Your chances of getting a decent cast are pretty much nonexistent, so you should demand a refund instead of a replacement and just use a plastic crisis suit.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Fine cast was labeled as awesome detail over pewter. Plus low weight for shipping costs. Never mind the same time they saved money on shipping they raised the prices. 20-30 bucks for a single character...

Anyways it was all bogus stop gap system. They cut cost of pewter and fine cast was the way to use pre existing molds with fine cast resin.

The word is now it's done. They have caught up with plastics and will slowly shift to all plastic. But fine cast will linger until molds get redone on existing models namely characters.

It's a horrid system and I refuse to buy any now due to non stop repeated issues in ones I've bought. Bubbles bent in repairable parts ect. For the cost flash removal should not take hours on detailed models. Also for the cost I better not get bent parts or warped that require steam cooking my model in my kitchen to Maybe! Straighten!

Just remember we paid extra for those cough fine cast cheaper to ship cheaper to make miniatures lol.

And they will charge even more for the plastic kits then the finecast kits. GW live in Bizarro world.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Finecast is a low quality resin, they use promotion from retail staff and the fact they have to a certain degree a captive market to sell it. FW resin for example is high quality.

I do remember out of my 20 Dark Eldar Incubi (being used as Slaaneshi Chosen) 14 were able to be used. Fortunately I had an Archon model to use as a champion so I was able to make the three rank unit I wanted. Also every single blade was warped.
