this is an odd post - but hear me out - basically I am a wh40k rogue trader player who has a nephew and he wants in so I am helping him and I find myself involved in wh40k again. I bought the 6th ed box set and we are painting it together but I want to "money buy" an eldar list I have been perusing the rules and I have an idea - can anyone help

This is a 1000 point list

The 1850 version will be the same plus TWO Wraith Knights with suncannon/shield upgrade PLUS an avatar

4 x 10 x Defender guardians with HW platform with Bright Lance
4 x Wave Serpent Dedicated Transport with twinlinked Brightlance
1 x Autarch

no gear no upgrades leaves me with 10 points spare change from 1000. Which I can spend on something somewhere. Probably a fusion gun for the autarch.

The idea is to mass the 40 guardian defenders (not stormies because no assault from transport) into the Wave Serpents and attack the (probably 2 ) squads of infantry there are. By going all out and using the wave shields against tanks, and disgorging all those rending shots in one place, with the bright lances (8!) against the armour I've slightly ignored and simply stay using the shuikats against infantry on unload wrinse repeat ride the losses.. I think that this is a highly versatile army with huge amounts of bang for the buck at the points level.

my only question is are scatter lasers better ?Across the Board? Heavy Weapons and Wave Serpents and try to rely on the d6+1 assault wave serpent shield shot for anti armour?

The 1850 version is the same with an Avatar for fearless plodding in with 2 wraithknights with suncannon, shield and twin scatter laser- simply because the enemy cannot physically repel two, and the attempting to do so will soak up huge amounts of attention.

I was wondering is this a likely list idea before I spend money? I am also kind of drawn to the jetbike cost being the same as a MUCH better space marine.. and going for a boat load of them (cost same as a marine better / same stats) but they lack heavy weapons.. still I am just doing this on paper atm.. ideas welcome.. experience of something similar every better!

I'm going to tell you this right now. I would have to be talked to long and hard to play this. 4 WS in 1k is a little over the top in almost all games. Unless you're playing competitively, then I wouldn't use this list. One thing I would change would be to put the Autarch on a Bike or Put a farseer on a bike. 3 Man Jetbike squads in reserve to cap objectives are also something you should look into.

I would swap the BLs on the Serpents to SLs. Twin linking the shield is massive and gives you the AA you are otherwise completely lacking. Magnetise the HW platforms. You need BLs as you have no anti-AV14 but when you up the list you'll get some so Starcannons are the better bet as they fulfill the same role as the Guardians.

Otherwise looks solid a good 1k and a solid base. Not uber competitive but strong and with most bases covered fairly well.

The 1850 adds 2 Wraithknights I would keep them Vanilla. You can kill TEQ and MEQ with the rest of your list the Wraithcannons will help you more against high AV and MCs. It also saves you 120 points. The Avatar doesn't fit at all drop him that leaves you 370 points to spend. War walkers are good more Serpents is good, upgrading the Autarch to a Mantleseer and taking some Warp Spiders for additional AA is also good.

But you've got a great starting point.

As mentioned above, you absolutely should change the Bright Lances to Scatter Lasers on the Wave Serpents. Scatter Lasers dramatically increase the damage output of the Wave Serpent Shield, and having that much twin-linked firepower also gives you anti-air options.

Your plan to expand to higher points looks solid.

The Autarch could definitely use a Fusion Gun. I would consider trading one Guardian unit for Storm Guardians with 2 Fusion Guns to make up for the loss of Bright Lances. This will also give your Autarch a good place to go.

Thanks @Gorgosaurusrex and @FlingitNow I think you are right about the stormies and the fusion guns and the twin linked bonus on the SL is very useful. @Feasible I hear what you are saying but there is no reason it need go into battle against even points enemy if any opponent feels cheated.. this isn't games-man-ship so much as an attempt to squeeze value out of the codex, then spend *real* money

If you give your waveserpents scatter lasers, shuiken cannons, and holo feilds they become basically the nastiest tank in the game. Thats why feasible is saying you might be over the top with them. Wraithknights with suncannons are very expensive, might want to consider running them vanilla.
