A search didn't field any results, so hopefully I'm not just repeating stuff here.

While reading through the Escalation/Stronghold mission rules, there's a lot of text about "Altar of War" books, which seem to be army specific mission tables (presumably to be released as supplements sometime in the future, it specifically mentions "Altar of War: Space Marines"). From the text blurb, I gather that players roll off before the game starts, and the winner can choose which Altar of War table to use for the mission. Either the BRB Eternal War bread n' butter missions, their own armies specific mission table, or any detachment specific mission tables (such as Escalation or Stronghold Assault). Similar to how there's the basic warlord table in the BRB, but each army has also had it's own warlord table as well.
Furthermore, an army that includes a Lords of War unit -MUST- roll on the Altar of War: Escalation mission table (if they win the die roll, or their opponent concedes their roll). These specialized missions seem to go along way in balancing the effects of super heavies in normal 40k games.

Sounds like some really interesting stuff to me, I've been growing quite bored of the standard eternal war missions and some race specific flavor in the form of new missions and objectives sounds awesome! The ones in Escalation/Stronghold already seem like a good direction and sign of things to come.

What do you guys think?

The altar of war books have been coming out on iBooks since they began doing digital releases. They even combined a lot of them into one volume a few months ago. They may release a physical version in the future of a collection of them, but that's just a guess.

So they released the DLC for the incomplete product before the product itself? Fascinating.
