Hi all,

I'm a freshfaced 40k player and thanks to the powers of eBay, I have recently acquired a nice horde to play against some firends. They have an assortment of armies - Crons, Tau, Iron Fists and Eldar. The IF player is relishing in the fact of the 5+ against his bolters already.

I'll be playing for fun so I don't need a power list etc, and I'm more enjoying writing the fluff for my Waaagh!, planning on a whovian eque theme when I get round to it.

To get to the point, my noob question is simple, with the below list (I really can't afford to buy any more for a long while) what would dakkadakka recommend as a 1000 point, a 1500 point and a 2000 point army to take?

Forgive any mistakes I make below, noob +7 after all, thanks in advance -

Warboss Squad (Squad 1)

• Warboss with Bosspole and Powerklaw – 90 points (I do have a random squig model I could perhaps proxy as an attack squig if people think a good idea)
• 6 Nobz with sluugaz and big choppaz – 150 points

240 points

Nobz Squad (Squad 2)

• 3 Nobz with Bosspoles and Powerklawz – 150 points
• 3 Nobz with Bosspoles and Big Choppaz – 90 points

240 points

Mek Squad (Squad 3)

• Big Mek with Kustom Force Field – 85 points
• Big Mek with Shok Attack Gun – 95 points
• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Big Choppa – 26 points
• 2 Shootaboyz with Big Shootaz – 22 points
• 17 Shootaboyz – 102 points

330 points

Weirdboy Squad (Squad 4)

• Warphead Weirdboy – 85 points
• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Big Choppa – 26 points
• 3 Boyz with Big Shootaz – 33 points
• 39 Sluggaboyz – 234 points

378 points

Burnaboyz Squad (Squad 5A)

• 3 Burnaboyz – 45 points
• 3 Meks with Big Shootaz – 45 points

90 points

Lootaz Squad (Squad 5B)

• 4 Lootaz with Deffgunz – 60 points
• 1 Mek with Kustom Mega-blasta – 15 points

75 points

Tankbustaz Squad (Squad 6)

• 1 Nob with Rokkit Launcher and Bosspole (using Gretchin model as BP) – 30 points
• 6 Tankbustaz with Tank hammers and Tankbusta bombz – 90 points
• 8 with Rokkit Launchaz – 120 points
• 2 Bomb Squigs – 10 points

250 points

Kommandos Squad Alpha (Squad 7)

• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Powerklaw – 50 points
• 1 Kommando with Rokkit Launcher – 20 points
• 1 Kommando with Big Shoota – 15 points
• 2 Kommandos – 20 points

105 points

Kommandos Squad Beta (Squad 8)

• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Powerklaw – 50 points
• 1 Kommando with Rokkit Launcher – 20 points
• 1 Kommando with Big Shoota – 15 points
• 2 Kommandos – 20 points

105 points

Warbikez Squad (Squad 9)

• 1 Nob with Big Choppa and Bosspole – 45 points
• 2 Warbikez – 50 points

95 points

Deffkopta Squad (Squad 10)

• 3 Deffkoptaz with Twin linked Rokkit Launchaz
135 points

N.B. - The list features the figures as I've bought them, I've not done any conversions myself, appreciate the lootaz could be more plentiful and the mek with KMB is not ideal. I've worked the points out as best I can with the codex.

Thanks again

Okay, here are some general things to consider:

1. You need only one bosspole per mob you're fielding. If you are going to attach your Boss to the Nobz, give him the pole and be done with it.

2. Those Meks with big shootas are better attached to the Loota squad as the ranges are somewhat similar. The Burna Boyz can take the one with the megablasta as the template range resembles it more closely and feels more at home there.

3. Squad size: you can take only 30 guys in a squad. 29+boss or 29+boss+independent character.

4. Maybe go for an allied detachment of Dread Mob. You can take the burnaz as meks for the spanna boyz (replaces the nob). The advantage being, as long as you are above 10 boyz you are fearless and the burna is a nice weapon to have up front before you charge.

5. Kommandoz can use the burna as well. Much more usefull as that BS2 rokkit for one round after wich you will be in close combat anyways. Burna doubles as a Power Weapon when not shot Template/Overwatch, BTW.

Awesome, thanks for the tips. Based on what you've said, I've had a reshuffle and come out with this -

Warboss Squad (Squad 1)

• Warboss with Bosspole and Powerklaw
• 8 Nobz with sluugaz and big choppaz
• 2 Nobz with Powerklawz

(some of these Nobz have Bosspoles on them, will just use bosspole on the Warboss and BPs on the Nobz are just for decoration)

KFF Mek Squad (Squad 2)

• Big Mek with Kustom Force Field
• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Big Choppa
• 2 Shootaboyz with Big Shootaz
• 17 Shootaboyz

SAG Mek Squad (Squad 3)

• Big Mek with Shok Attack Gun
• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Powerklaw
• 20 Sluggaboyz

Weirdboy Squad (Squad 4)

• Warphead Weirdboy
• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Big Choppa
• 3 Boyz with Big Shootaz
• 19 Sluggaboyz

Lootaz Squad (Squad 5)

• 4 Lootaz with Deffgunz
• 3 Meks with Big Shootaz
• 1 Mek with Kustom Mega-blasta

Tankbustaz Squad (Squad 6)

• 1 Nob with Rokkit Launcher and Bosspole (using Gretchin model as BP proxy)
• 6 Tankbustaz with Tank hammers and Tankbusta bombz
• 8 with Rokkit Launchaz
• 2 Bomb Squigs

Kommandos Squad Alpha (Squad 7)

• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Powerklaw
• 1 Kommando with Rokkit Launcher
• 1 Kommando with Big Shoota
• 2 Kommandos
• 1 Kommando with Burna

Kommandos Squad Beta (Squad 8)

• 1 Nob with Bosspole and Powerklaw
• 1 Kommando with Rokkit Launcher
• 1 Kommando with Big Shoota
• 2 Kommandos
• 2 Kommandos with Burnaz

Warbikez Squad (Squad 9)

• 1 Nob with Big Choppa and Bosspole
• 2 Warbikez

Deffkopta Squad (Squad 10)

• 3 Deffkoptaz with Twin linked Rokkit Launchaz

I think that fits in with what you suggested . Would the above list be codex legal etc? Again apologies for the noobish post. If my maths is up to scratch. I make the above list to be approx 2000 points, is that right? Thanks again

Further alterations:

Only 1 special weapon per 10 boyz. I think you need 30 to get 3 heavy weapons, so only 3 big shootas in that squad. Give the extra love to that KFF Squad.

SAG has a huge range. You want that thing to stay as far back as humanely possible, so teaming it up with anything besides some grotz for extra wounds is a waste. Those 60" can be quite nice and the only thing coming close are the 48" of Lootaz.

Kommandoz can have only 2 special weapons (big shoota-burna-rokkit launcha) so you have to tone down a bit on them.

Only 3 Meks per Burna/Loota squad.

The exact list varies depending on what you play against. Squishy hordes will require burnaz. If there are not many tanks on the field or rather thin-walled ones you may fare better with only the Deffkoptas and no Tankbustas. I use 2x4 Squads of copters as mobile Tank/Marine hunters. Won't forget that SM Captain instakilled with a rokkit in a hurry... it was a good day.

Also, check your FOC. burnaz, lootaz, 2xcommandoz and a nob squad. As long as the waaghboss is there, the nobs count as troops, but not without him.

Sounds a good day indeed. Thank you for all the help, greatly appreciated. I'm amending the list as I type

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In regards to the FOC, am I right in thinking that for under 2000 points, I can take -

Primary Detachment -

Warboss and Nobz (1 HQ and 1 Troop)
KFF Mek with his Boyz (1 HQ and 1 Troop)
Boyz Squad (1 Troop)
Lootaz Squad (1 Elite)
Tankbustaz Squad (1 Elite)
Kommandos Squad (1 Elite)
Warbikes (1 Fast Attack)
Deffkoptaz (1 Fast Attack)

Secondary Detachment -

Warphead weirdboy and his Boyz ( So equals 1 HQ and 1 Troop)

I think that's right lol.
