I'm looking to get into Saga in a big way but there's such a large variety of factions that I'm a little taken aback. I was wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of how various factions play?

Anglo-Danish : Core Rulebook : Defensive
Normans : Core Rulebook : Shooting + Cavalry
Vikings : Core Rulebook : Aggressive
Welsh : Core Rulebook : Skirmish / Hit & Run

Anglo-Saxon : Northern Fury : Defensive / Large Units
Breton : Northern Fury : Shooting / Hit & Run / Cavalry
Jomsvikings : Northern Fury : Defensive / Aggressive (with wrath)
Scots : Northern Fury : Defensive

Franks : Raven's Shadow : Reactive (most abilities played in opponent's turns)
Irish : Raven's Shadow : Skirmish / Shooting
Norse-Gaels : Raven's Shadow : Aggressive
Stratchclyde Welsh : Raven's Shadow : Cavalry / Hit & Run

Byzantines : Varjazi & Basileus : Cavalry / Shooting / Unit support
Era Of The Princes Rus : Varjazi & Basileus : Cavalry / Aggressive
Pagan Rus : Varjazi & Basileus : Defensive / Control

Skraelings : Skirmish / Hit & Run

It's not very descriptive but it should give you an idea of each factions playstyle.

Cheers,

Tom.

Also recently added (in an issue of Wargames Illustrated) is the Steppe Nomads faction as an enemy for your Rus or Byzantine "warbands" (doesn't really seem to be the right word when talking about the Byzantines... but whatever). Two words - Horse Archers. The battle board's focus is on hit and run tactics, lots of shooting, and putting horsemen where your opponent really doesn't want to see them.
