Looking to step away from the Orks for a while, and I'm considering some Iron Warriors.
Could you guys suggest a list or three that is primarily for fun, and modeling opportunities, but is also a solid list that can win a game or two?
New to CSM, and don't have the codex yet, but investing heavily, and soon.

Thanks!

I'm working on something, I share the idea freely with you, but not sure how you or others will like it.

The theme is: to out-do the Iron Hands in the 6th SM Codex.

Iron Hands have Bionics with FNP 6+ and an It Will Not Die on their Vehicles. So let's just dial that up to 11 with:

--- 1,000 Points List ---

MoN Chaos Lord w/ Blight Grenades & Terminator Armour

5 Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns

5 Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns

5 Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns

Helldrake w/ Bale Flamer

3 MoN Obliterators

The Chaos Lord joins the Oblits, giving some close combat support with his statline and Blight Grenades.

--- Kit-Bash ---

I saw your Ork conversions, beautiful work, I'm nowhere as skillful as you, so I'm just Kit-Bashing.

So what I'm doing is almost everyone is in Mark III Iron Armour because its helmet looks basically like our Chapter.

For Plague Marines, I'm using Mark III Iron Armour with bionics I got from Anvil Industry, arms and legs.

For the Helldrake, I'm proxing with a Hellblade Jet Fighter, with bombs on the wings to represent Baleflame like Napalm.

Obliterators are actually the Centurion Devastators and replacing their heads with Mk III helmets, stripping aquillas.

There are other details, like models I'm modifying for the Lord and Champs, Scribor shoulders, etc., but minor.

---

In older versions of the Codex, Iron Warriors had an upgrade to reflect their Bionics that was essentially a FNP save before there was FNP. I always wanted to bring back that feel and Plague Marines' FNP was the closest thing. I wasn't sure if other players would understand the reference, though.

Then the 6th ed SM Codex happened. The Iron Hands Chapter Tactic was exactly what I wanted, but on the Loyalist side. Well, if it anything, it became much more intuitive to other players, especially since the Bionics are reflected on the models themselves. IMHO, it made this idea much easier to represent.

One thing central to an Iron Warriors-themed list would be Daemon Engines. Forgefiends, Maulerfiends, Defilers, even Helturkeys, are much appreciated to any fluff lover considering the ties to the Dark Mechanicum. Another lesser known thing is to use strong CC units, particularly Khornate Terminators in a Land Raider or a unit of Raptors (the only mark that won't really work is Tzeentch, and that's quite useful for Warp Talons actually). Also, a personal thing that I do with my Iron Warriors is that whenever possible, I take meltas and put my leaders in TDA, it just meshes well with Iron Warriors in my mind. And, never forget about Warpsmiths. So, for a 1500 point list, I can think of this:

I swore to tear Heaven asunder
As flights of fallen angels wished me
Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder

That's a great approach Waaghrick! Thanks so much for sharing. I'll consider it.
It also is really tempting to model Nurgle marines with this list, but I really love the Iron Warrior paint scheme.

Warpsmith, that list looks like basically where I was planning to start, with some extras that I hadn't considered, so thanks for the leg up as well.

Lastly, thanks for the compliment Waaghrick. I do love modeling Orks, and I think I will also love modeling CSM.

Anyone else?

Actually, to get away with using Nurgle marines in a fluffy way, don't use Plague Marine models; instead, use normal CSM models, and kitbash parts from the Iron Hands upgrade sprue, paint rust and corrosion effects, and say that Nurgle's Rot affected their bionics. EDIT: Forgot to mention in my previous post..... VINDICATORS, TASY VINDICATORS, WITH LOTS OF SYRUP.

Is Kranon the Relentless, Chaos Lord also in terminator armor?
I'll be getting him as a gift from a friend who bought DV, along with the cultists, dred, etc.

Please hear me out. Why not just play iron hand but paint them just like iron warriors. Its like ordering chiken but getting pork, however both are white meat. (Both are space marines but the chaos taste different)

It is very easy to flip it the other way stating that the loyalist just recently went rogue and brought with them new tech. You can paint them using iron warriorpaint scheme but play them as 6th ed space marine.

I play my Iron Warriors using C:SM CT:IH. It works well enough. You gain units that make sense, like TFCs, you can use Oblits as Centurions, and IWND on all vehicles is as close to daemon engines as you can get without daemon engines. Can't use my Hellturkeys though. :(

I play Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Astra Militarum, Militarum Tempestus, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Orks, Adepta Sororitas, 'Nids, Necrons, Tau and Grey Knights.

No, he isn't, but he could be useful as a lord to give different marks for access to cult troops.

Thank you erik99

Iron warriors do not need fast attack units such as that helturkey.
