Subject: 1500pts Death Guard/Nugle Themed casual army

Hi, I haven't played many games of 40K though I've followed it on and off for years and years. For me, creating an army is probably more about the hobby side, painting cool minis and such, than the meta/competitive side. That said, I'd like to make a Death Guard themed list that is both fun, having cool models and such, but also able to hold its own on the casual scene.
So here goes:
Chaos Lord
MoN, Blight grenades, Terminator armour, Power Fist, Lightning Claw, Mutation
147pts
Sorcerer
MoN, Additional Mastery, Spell Familiar
115pts
Helbrute
100pts
5 Terminators
MoN, 1 Power Fist, 1 Chainfist, 1 Heavy Flamer
216pts
7 Plague Marines
Plasma Gun, Rhino transport
218pts
7 Plague Marines
Plasma Gun, Rhino transport
218pts
10 Cultists
Flamer
55pts
10 Cultists
Flamer
55pts
2 Chaos Spawn
MoN
72pts
2 Obliterators
MoN
152pts
2 Obliterators
MoN
152pts
TOTAL: 1500pts
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In actually writing this list/post I've re-made it like 4 times, ending up with this list at exactly 1500 points by pure coincidence.
Anyway, my idea is that the Lord and Terminators will deep-strike somewhere nice, while the Plague Marines and Sorcerers in Rhinos move up with the Helbrute, Oblits and Spawns, and the Cultists camp sit on objectives.
One concern I have is lack of anti-armour as there's really only the Oblits, Helbrute and Terminators for cracking hard nuts. Is that enough?
Thanks in advance!

I've run a very similar list. Minus the Terminators.
just remember, with the FAQ, you save 5 points on that stock Helbrute!
A lot of people will say the Helbrute is an easy kill, but I've had a few moments where its shined. Any str 10 PF hits will surely be noticed. And against certain models (orks) you can tarpit the whole game. Which has always been the Death Guard way.
Its definitely a Fun list, that can win big on casual games. With Death Guard we don't have the real firepower to completely destroy the opponent, but usually still put up a good fight. After every game I've played, my opponent is always surprised by how resilient they have been.
IBut you should definitely get more Spawn!
I might also suggest a Power-fist for the Lord, since I cant tell you how many times I've been Challenge locked in a fight against 2+ armor... Now that I've given him the Fist, the L.Claw is there mainly for the extra attack. There are a lot of weapons and wargear that leave you Init. 1 anyways, so its never that big a deal.

Wow, totally forgot all about FAQ checking (it's been awhile). Those 5 points lets me give the Lord a PF along with a Lightning Claw, so that's awesome.
And I agree about needing more spawns, but I don't see how to get more without making big cuts to something. Are Spawns really that good?

at first I ran the spawn just to reach the enemy before the PM do, then decided they needed a boost, so stuck a Biker Lord with them. Now because of their random attacks and mutations, youre never sure how well they will do, buuuut ive had times where the spawn kill whole units before the lord even gets to hit!
Just beware certain challenges where the spawn get ignored, like a 1 on 1 challenge. It sucks to have the spawns just wriggle around while you face some loyalist chapter master.

Another question I have is whether Oblits are actually a decent choice rather than straight-up Havocs. For the same points cost as two Oblits I could get a Havoc squad with MoN and 4 missile launchers, or 3 Lascannons.
Maybe I'll do one of each just to keep it interesting...
And yeah, I've seen the Bike Lord + Spawn combo, it looks nasty but it's too "gimmicky" for me (I hate the concept of bikes as well).

If you use your sorc to cast non nurgle spells then ignore me. Why not drop the termi lord & sorc and take typhus so you upgrade cultist to zombies.
Give the helbrute a lascannon instead so he is a rifle dred.

Are zombies actually that good? I guess 50 points for ten T4 troops isn't bad.
Anyway what I'm thinking is swapping the Lord and Sorc for Typhus, freeing up points to replace one of the Oblits with a 4-Lascannon squad of Havocs for hard anti-armour, and of course zombifying the cultists.

typhus with a 2 man oblit retinue is a great unit. DS in and just go to work. Destroyer hive stops mobs, t5 2 wound models, 2+ saves, psichic, shooting, and all attack at str8 ap2 in cc. Its not a deathstar but its close and has huge firepower.
Zombies get t4 fearless and FnP, so through 12-16 on your home point and forget about em. drop the second cult squad. Maybe also drop the PM squads to 5. Thats some points.
The Helbrute is okay, but with the random table you lose his 1/3 of the time. Not a very efficient use of points but can be good at times. for the same price, i'd pick up 3 terminators with combi weapons and termicide them. Great with MoN too.
Typhus w/ 2 oblits
3 man termicide squad
1 big Zomboss squad for home point.
2-3 PM squads with plasma and rhinos
1 Havoc Squad w/ Autocannons (flyers and transports)
2-3 Oblits
2-3 Spawn
If you can fit an Aegis for the Havocs they get 2x as good.
Heldrakes are good. You might have heard that. Maybe get one instead of spawn to give your army a flyer component.
^My suggestion.

Op, how are you running 4 oblits? Each one counts as a heavy choice. Sorry if the answer is obv, I'm a new player.
