Hi all,
I'm lookimg for hints regarding how to play Space Wolves versus Salamanders? From my few games against them i see that they are pretty much vanilla marines, with a lot of rerolls from melta and flamers.
Drop Pod assault army lacks the firepower to win with fully mechanized Salamanders. I was thinking about going full assault (Caestus or Land Raiders with Wolf Guard) and Thunderwolves. Or using a razorspam gunline with lots of fangs and few Grey Hunters teams for scoring.
Any hints?

Salamanders can do close-range shooting a little bit better than Space Wolves can, with the benefit to Flamers (and Meltas if xe brought Vulkan) and probable Sternguard, but Grey Hunters are much better in CC, and the Salamanders player has to get into CC range to really make use of the Chapter Tactic.
If there's even a hint of Vulkan, I'd avoid Land Raiders like the plague. Caestus Assault Rams are great if your FLGS allows Forgeworld, as it's immune to melta iirc. Thunderwolves are good in not getting ID'd by melta, and they have good mobility. I'd avoid Razorbacks as well, as they're really not that effective anymore in 6th in my own experiences.
I don't know the SW codex that well, but a mostly foot-based Wolves can probably do reasonably. Put TDAWGs in ML Long Fangs/Grey Hunters, alongside Rune Priests with Div Powers, LoS melta wounds off of your 2+ saves, and bring a few Lone Wolves and Thunderwolves with standard armaments, and you'll probably do reasonably well.

You could try power armor logan wing. You take a ton of combi weapons and drop pod down wolf guard. You should be able to pop any armor he brings with enough combi meltas and grenade throws. Then he gets one turn of retailiation fire before you charge in. Its just a question of how many drop pods you take.
Also Thunderwolves being two wounds and T5 will do nicely here to cover ground needed to get into charge range. His meltas and flamers wont ID the guys and you will still have enough HTH punch to chew through his tac squads in combat.

My opponent is using few tac squads in Rhinos, Vulkan with some combi-melta Sternguard, a Vindicator, Stormtalon and some snipers.
I can use 6 Drop Pods. Last game we played, i have opened few of his rhinos with my melta GH in a Drop Pod but then he got a round of close shooting and wiped out most of my GH.
I am looking for a way of opening his transports from a safe distance and the assaulting him with TWC and Wolf Guard (eith TDA or not).
All best,

I think drop pods are most effective in odd numbers. It let's you frontload their deployment cheapest.
Run 2 longfang squads, missiles are good, though consider lascannons (expensive though!) Drop onto his face, use longfangs to crack his transports, and use the drop pod guys to reduce the pain coming back the other way from shooting. Take wolf banners for the reroll 1s, and consider wolfpriests to make squads fearless and gain preferred enemy.
Landspeeders are also fun. His Meltas become vastly overkill, you can jink for survivability, and they can carry multimeltas themselves, which crack his metal boxes.

Salamanders are a waste without pods. Try to kill Vulkan and the Sternguard. Vulkan will basically be a weed wacker to anything with 3+ but anything with a 2+ will hold him down. Vulkan lacks eternal warrior so maybe Thunderhammer him. Sternguard have an effectrive range of 18 inches (6 Inch Move/ 12 Inch Rapid Fire). Watch out for Melta and Flamer Spam.
