Is it possible to run a light beast pack for trolls- I think there are 3 problems with it-
Getting heavy hits in- on average, power 13 means that you should always boost on armor over 16, so the possibility of doing major damage is lowered. Also, the light beasts have a lower fury stat. This can be mitigated by using something like they pyre trolls animus

Absorbing shots- The warbeasts only have a few hit boxes- if somehow they aren't killed, using regeneration will add fury. You probably need stone carriers to prevent to much damage, and possibly a bouncer to help at preventing that last shot from killing at long range and bounce away heavy hitters.

Fury management- Your warbeasts will be extremely limited, even with the warcaster casting their animuses instead.

Here is a possible 25 point list-
Grim Hunters
Bouncer
Impaler
Pyre Troll
Axer
Scribes
Small squad of pyg burrowers

and 40k was like McDonalds - you could get it anywhere - it wouldn't necessarily satisfy, but it was probably better than nothing.

I have never really felt that the troll light beasts were that great except the axer, reach + thresher on that axe mops up infantry very well and his animus is fantastic for the dire trolls. Some of the others have some utility purposes but none of them can effectively crack high armor targets, khador jacks and colassals will walk right over them. On top of that, there are so many really good dire trolls: EBDT, mulg, ROK, bomber, even the mauler really is a powerhouse. Why do you want to run all lights anyways?

I've tried it with eGrim and usually it just has a big turn, then frenzy checks everywhere. If you're going to do this, I would suggest adding Welps for fury management.

Grim can mitigate this a bit with Mortality (So +4 on damage really after other buff)--but the main problem with all Troll lights are their stats and Fury (3).

The most success I've had is using a Pyre/Impaler/Slag/Storm in all lights. Pyre gives you fire (and helps against Legion), Impaler gives you a crit slam/snipe, Storm gives you some infantry killing and jankiness (Yep you can boost the bounce!) and Slag gives you a solid answer against armor/Cryx. Mortality + feat + Slag Troll against a Warjack or Cryx Undead caster = some serious damage.

Just as a general conversation though, I'm firmly in the camp that eGrim is the best answer we have against Cryx right now. Stone Scribes + Elder + Mage Sight + Mortality handles Satyxis jam, Blood feat, Grim can snipe out the Hag, Mage Sight for Thralls, almost one shot Tarter, etc. I should write an article on it eh.

Anyways, I wouldn't suggest it---but as always in Warmahordes, play it 2-3 times before giving up on it! Tabletop interaction always surprises me in this game vs. theorymachine.

I'm not a troll player but FWIW, Impalers can really ruin someone's plan if they get a good crit. Slag trolls are also pretty scary to 'jacks and it's having two open fists can be pretty useful in the right place.

I have seen some very frightening eMadrak lists with only 2-3 lights and no heavies. I don't think he would want to take more beasts than that since his spell list and feat are infantry-centric.

I'm building this list from memory having played it last month so bare with me if the details are off.
Points: 50/50
Madrak Ironhide, World Ender (*5pts)
* Troll Bouncer (5pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
Kriel Warriors (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
* 3 Kriel Warrior Caber Thrower (3pts)
* Kriel Warrior Standard Bearer & Piper (2pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 5 Stone Scribes (4pts)
* Krielstone Stone Scribe Elder (1pts)
Trollkin Fennblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Trollkin Warders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Fennblade Kithkar (2pts)
Trollkin Champion Hero (3pts)

It isn't quite the full pack of lights but it is a list it does run only light beasts and has no issues with fury management.

Calandra's NQ Theme Force Evolutionary Elementalism runs all the elemental lights (Slag, Winter, Pyre, Storm) and she has Soothing Song. Its awesome at clearing Infantry, and then you can grab Warders to deal with ARM. If you really want to focus on Light Beasts, she's pretty much the answer.

You could try Gunnbjorn with Impalers, Pyres, Slags, and Storms? Boosted attack rolls in the battle group could be hilarious.
