So ive been looking at some of the post around the internet and the backlash to GW new rules is amazing to me. I don’t think these rules are going to do anything but allow a huge amount of army lists. Your just not going to see taudar and demons anymore.

Lets look and see whats out there at this point.

Eldar titan list- looses to massed flyers, lots of meltas, puppetmaster, anrakyr. It is a iwin button against everything else.

2++ reroll demons- looses to elder titan, c’tans with D weapons, rune priests, shdows in the warp. It’s a hard matchup for everyone else but not unbeatable.

Deldar bike council- looses to D weapons, rune priests, shadow in the warp, bad luck on rolling for powers. It’s a another hard match up for everyone else but not unbeatable.

SM bikers list- these guys seem like they are evenly matched against the field. The only issue that stands out to be is the elder titan with servo skull support.

Tau/ taudar- looses to elder titan, c’tan with D weapons. I don’t think it will be as strong as it used to be with players having to worry about D weapons which will make it easier for all other lists to take down.

Waveserpent spam- auto lose to elder titan, demons don’t care. Has a good matchup against everything else.

This is just at first glance. I think the format will be better with superheavies and all of the new rules.

Also why cant we take a page outa magics book and make some thing like codex/ allies only and all rules?

So... how does that encourage diversity, exactly...?

Yeah, I think you're going to find that the metagame is composed of Revenant lists, and anti-Revenant lists. Nobody (at least nobody who is seriously competing) will bring all those lists that the other "viable" lists have good matchups against because they have an auto-loss every time they face a Revenant.

Well, one argument is that this isn't diversity, it's homogenization. Basically, if things go like they do, you will not be able to compete without a melange of different armies. So, instead of having a dozen distinct armies, all with their own style, we will now have maybe a dozen blends of units from different lists. And Tyranids.

Which leads to the 2nd Argument- Putting all this stuff out there hurts anyone who wants to be a "Faction Purist" (And Tyranids). They don't get the new toys, and we still have the problems of the factions being imbalanced.

Combine this with a general perceived lack of quality of the rules, with such minimalistic effort appearing to have gone into them they are strikingly "buy more stuff", not "here are some rules for a more diverse game".

Yes, because so many people own Revenants and they are so easy to get...it's more likely you will find Lord of Skulls and Baneblades, since they are relatively cheaper and you can just get them at a store.

How many lists win now? Two maybe three? Sure the elder titan is ridiculous but its not an I win every game. It can't touch flyers and hates meltas. I see 6 or 7 lists now all being played instead of justt a couple.

I would give it a month at most before totally original cast, honest Armorcast Revenants start popping up on eBay again...

Cost of the model isn't a valid balancing factor. If it wins games well enough (and is allowed in enough events) people will get the models or proxy them. You can't balance the game around an assumption that people won't abuse the balance problems.

Except look at your list again. See all those lists that say "loses to Revenant lists"? Take them out of the metagame. Few people are going to play a list that has an auto-lose against a list that is popular in the current metagame. So what you're left with is Revenant lists, and lists dedicated to killing Revenant lists.

Some Tomb World in some galaxy by that one thing in that one place (or Minnesota for nosy people)

To the game is now just big and expensive rock paper scissors. Titan lists beat traditional lists traditional lists beat anti titan lists and anti titan lists obviously beat titan lists

I personally see "now" as being a bad example. By "Now" we have had a year and a half of 6th ed codexes and Allies- so we are already seeing the trend of what homogenizing the codices will do. People are just reacting to a couple obvious instances (Escalation, Data-slates).

This is assuming that Escalation will become tournament standard, which it probably won't.

And people got their knickers in a twist about the R'vana.
