To be honest, I'm a big fan of Escalation and Stronghold assault. I think it adds A LOT to the game and this report even shows that SH does not automatically equal win.

One point to note: if I heard it correctly, your opponent did 4 hull points to your Stompa on turn 1. He would receive 1 VP for every 3 HP. It didn't change the outcome of the game, but this can be a very important point to remember.

Overall, great report and I can't wait to actually get in a game using the new rules. Thanks for posting.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I'm not going to lie, 40k was pretty much dead for me until the release of escalation. It's an absolute blast and I'll be posting a second video against an IG list with a bane blade.

As far as the hull points go. We did remember, but I repaired them so it negates my points.

Thanks for watching the report!

Good point on the repairing the hull points. Something I'd not even considered.

Still a very cool report.

Hell yeah, wanted to see how meks in a stompa worked and it seemed to make it tough as nails. However the stompa seems to have way less firepower than I expected it too...

Btw, did you guys use standard D weapons, or downgrade them?

You mention that the Stompa was gonna assault the flyer... can Superheavy walkers do that? Because that would be awesome!

I'd suggest sticking the Stompa behind a battlewagon for what I believe is 4+ cover. Good for replacing or improving on the 5+ of the big mek

Great batrep overall!

Pretty sure the only D weapon on the Stompa is a melee weapon.

Nope, Super Heavy Walkers cannot assault flyers when they are zooming. However, iirc, that flyer was hovering. A hovering flyer is just a skimmer.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

I think a Kustom Stompa with two Bursta Kannons filled up with the 10 Meks as you used it is probably one of the best ways to run a super-heavy. It's expensive, but not unbearably so, and you get a tough-as-nails shooting platform with two SD blasts. The game would have gone very differently if you'd been able to drop a SD blast on each objective turn one, likely killing everything or almost everything on the first turn and the mopping up with what you had left.

Aside from the strangth D though, I think superheavies are fairly balanced. Their main strength lies in durability and the fact they fire at full effectiveness until they die, but they are slow and vulnerable to DS melta, haywire, etc. and if you lose one it's a huge deal. If you have nearby troops you have to worry about them dying to the explosion when it dies as well. Looking forward to seeing a Malcador in some renegades armies!

Currently not in posession of any armies - I merely theorycraft and discuss background,
Waiting for HH Book 6 so I can start an Imperial Army army.

Nice spotting. I'd taken a look at the Kustom but didn't notice one of the options in it was D level.

Kustom Stompa
~2x Bursta Kannon
~1x Powerfield

560 points

Thats comparable dakka to a Rev titan (2x 7" D blasts), and has a built in void shield (sans recharge) which when combined with void shield generators will allow it to tank a Rev Titan opening salvo pretty handily (I hope)

Dunno about how it stacks up to all those other new titans though.

Personally I'd like to see superheavies with zero D weapons, and with actual damage results reinstated - the damn thing takes up half of your points, it should at least be more dynamic to fight against and I don't know what the feth they were thinking removing the damage results.
