Reading thru the SM codex, and had an idea. and then another idea, and then another, trailing smoke through the sky like... like... like... a DROP POD ASSAULT!!!!!

Make an invincible Chapter Master on a Bike, stick him with a Scout bike squad for infiltrate. Bam, two beacons on the field before the game even starts. More if you want to take more scouts! Watch as your Drop Pods glide effortlessly to the ground! It actually is pretty easy to get beacons out there, especially once the first drop pod arrives safely! You put a locator on that too right?

Things you can drop that will suck for your foe.
1: Dual TL Autocannons on a Venerablenought means you hit on 2+, plus re-rolls, then wound on 2+ for most stuff. Perfect for dropping next to blobs or tanks!
2: Plasma armed Tacticals, cheap way to drop down some plas spam!
3: Termiciders! Grab an assault cannon and pray to the emprah you survive! Note that this is only handy in conjunction with the teleport beacon, basically a 10 point drop pod that doesn't scatter.
4: Suit up a Librarian and drop him in with the Termiciders for extra shooty lulz! Make sure you get some good psychic powas!

And if you thought that was mean take a look at this. Take the Iron Hands tactic and everyone with Chapter Tactics gets FNP even vehicles, all your Characters get IWND!

You need to watch out for servo skulls preventing you from scouting or infiltrating.

I would rather just put the chapter master in a drop pod.

There is no reason to take a rifleman dreadnought in a drop pod, let alone a rifleman Venerable. Especially if you're dropping them next to blobs or tanks, take the default MM/HF instead or an Ironclad with MG/HF or HF/HF.

Podded plasma tacticals are great. Don't forget you can get a second shot out of each pod by giving the sergeant a matching Combi-Bolter. Since you are so close, you can use melta or flamers over plasma as well. Grav is questionable since you lose shots while disembarking.

The only armies that should be using shooting terminators are Dark Angels, Space Wolves, and CSM. It's not worth it for anyone else.

Librarian terminators are kind of dead, unfortunately. I still have the model sitting on the shelf. They might be a little useful for Iron Arm and assault, but a chapter master is probably better for that. If you want a librarian you should pod one in power armor with no other gear or just mastery level 2, or better yet, pod in allied Rune Priests or Mantis Warrior/DA librarians who have Divination.

Hail the Emperor.

If going for that many beacons, ally in some BA vanguard vets for some insta-assaults... probably the only time they will be useful for tye extreme points cost.

This idea has been around for a while (since 5th edition), however it is fairly effective.

Venerable Dreadnoughts - No. Ironclad Dreads w/ 2x Heavy Flamers.
Plasma Tacs - Amazing, 10x Man w/ PG/Combi-Plas, Heavy Weapon
Terminators - No, Unless you get very high target saturation this won't be cost efficient
Librarian - Makes then slightly better but drop podding termis is bad in the first place.

Derp, yeah Dropping Termies IS kinda silly, since the Chapter Master can take a Teleport Beacon.

I guess teleporting termies is kind of a reserves thing to do. It's not like the CM is going anywhere unless he fire magnets everything, in which case, meh! Oh well. There are obvious benefits to that too. And while shooty termies are really better with Chaos I still don't like going full assault with them. I find it's better to have the range, even if it's only against stuff the termies would chew through in CC anyways. But now how about the Dreads? I kinda like the idea of plunking down a rifleman on an enemies flank or rear. Especially if there is side armour or rear showing! My main thing with Dreads is that I don't like their CC, they just seem a little lackluster there for me. Additionally, if you slap a Deathwind on the Drop Pod carrying the Dread that's a nice little space clearer too.

Really what is happening here is I'm reading the new C:SM codex and wishing I'd gotten the OTHER half of the DV set!

If you join an IC without infilitrate/scout, doesn't a unit he joins lose the ability?

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.
