Not that one would necessarily want to, but the Centurion Siegebreaker Cohort dataslate specifies that the formation must use:
2+ Centurion Assault Squads
1+ Ironclad Dreadnought

Formations do not count towards the standard force org, but are there any indications whether they may/may not also exceed the limits themselves? A minimum selection of this formation has three "Elite" units in it; taking more takes the Formation over 3 elite units. Hell, the formation may include more than 3 of any of the units, points-willing.

As a side note, has there been a definitive consensus whether or not units in a Formation also count as the appropriate unit type (elite/fa/etc.) for purposes of being scoring in missions where they'd be able to otherwise? The dataslates include the unit type in the entry for each unit.

Thanks.

Since they don't count towards the FOC, as you said, they don't count towards the FOC. You get the FOC plus whatever formation you take.

Since they're not from the FOC, the units in the formation can't be FA or HS for scoring in the relevant missions. For the Centurion formation that's irrelevant anyway, though, since it's only for Apoc.

Its also important to note that the Centurion Siegebreaker Cohort is an apocalypse formation where the FOC is normally tossed out to begin with. Because its an apocalypse formation it can not normaly be taken in an traditional 40k game.

Assuming you and your opponent are ok with running it in a normal game or are using FOC in your apocalypse games then yes, you could include as many models as you can afford.

Ah! I missed that part in the formation. That does make this whole question rather moot as I believe the other formations have all had specific limits on the numbers of units one can take with them.
