Hi all,

Warhammer World has started doing painting competitions on their facebook page and I've decided to enter their current run. This is fantastic marketing (or my brain has left me for the holiday season) as I would not have purchased this overpriced mini before: Space Marine Captain

I really cannot understand why it is so expensive but I had some spare cash and an idea so I stupidly bought it. We're allowed to convert the mini as long as you can tell what mini it started off as. I have opted to make mine into a Luna Wolves Captain at the height of the Great Crusade (largely because I have started re-reading the HH series).

So far all I have done is build him and give him his base colour of white. I have another Space Marine that I am testing out weathering on after the initial white has been applied.

Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have the white armour showing some combat damage and then I can work on detailing this mofo.

I'm looking for ideas as to which Company he should belong to so answers on a postcard, please.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Well the contest has been and gone.

Here is an early shot of the paint job:

I asked my dad to come over and take some shots with his uber-expensive camera as he has done some fantastic close-ups of insects in the past (has been published). Sadly the lighting on the day fought against him and he literally had beads of sweat running down his forehead). I threw together a compilation and submitted it to Warhammer World's email:

I didn't win but I didn't come last so I'm not disappointed. I was outside of my comfort zone as I've only really started to paint white and am pleased with what I learned from it. Here's a snap I took of the fellow yesterday:

Nice work. It's always cool to see some Luna Wolves rather than Sons of Horus, I really like the white-grey scheme.

If I might offer some constructive criticism, it would be to paint some kind of effect on the sword, even just a wash of blue would add a lot. I can see that you've put a lot of effort into the blending on the sword, but I think a blue wash would really cement it as a power weapon rather than a mundane blade. Similarly, a black/brown wash would add some depth to the visor as well.

I'd also suggest some weathering on the armour, but that just comes down to taste. I always feel white/grey armour benefits a lot from chipping effects, but that's just personal preference.

Once more, good stuff

Thanks for the feedback.

I based the sword on a picture I found of a Roman gladius. As I said, I was experimenting and I'm not entirely happy with the result of it. I think I shall stick with doing power swords in the future

As for the armour, I wasn't confident with doing chipping on it but I did use subtle pigments in an attempt to give it a well-kept yet used look. I've since gone on to try my hand at chipped paint on my Death Guard units.

Looks really good! Love the subtle head swap!

Guilliman and the Ultramarines are like Manchester United, everyone hates them because they are so awesome!
