This may be a Noob question, but can a flyer come out of reserves and then fly straight off of the table, either in the movement phase or by going flat out, in ongoing reserves so it comes in automatically the next turn?

Yes, but I'm not sure why you'd want to.

If you have a flyer or or two as your only anti air, one way to ensure that that your flyers come on after your opponents would be to fly them into ongoing reserves so they they'd they don't get shot up by an enemy flyer or Interceptor shots.

Ah, got it:
Q: Can a Flyer or Flying Monstrous Creature Leave Combat
Airspace on the same turn that it entered play from
Reserves/Ongoing Reserves? (p49/81)
A: No – the owning player must deploy and move their Flyer
or Flying Monstrous Creature in such a way that this does
not happen.

This Frequently Asked Question answer is very important because there exists units capable of carrying out attacks during the movement phase. Without a restriction preventing these units from flying off the table on the same turn they arrive, it would be possible to for these units to carry out an attack and be gone before any counter attack could damage them. Given that fliers have such a large movement range, even taking into account an angle to hit the 'edge of the table' during this movement, this makes them a serious threat even without making them effectively invulnerable on top of it all. After all, even Interceptor wouldn't be able to attack such units.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |
