Subject: 1000 point Cadian army - any good?

Ok,my usual opponents will be Orks and Tau, although I shall face MEQs and nids a bit too. Here is what I HOPE to be a balanced, fluffy, fun and soewhat competative list to play. It is also designed to be expanded for CityFight when it is released, although I doubt I shall play on ANY cityfight tables at this present time. However, there are a lot of Woods where I play, and the 25% cover is also present. Cadian Army List - 1000 points Doctrines Grenadiers Iron Discipline Sharpshooters HQ Command Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Krak Grenades, Honorifica Imperialis & Iron Discipline. 3 Guardsmen w/ Laspistols & CCWs. Veteran w/ Company Standard, Laspistol & CCW. 89 Troops Grenadier Squad 1: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 9 Storm Troopers w/ 7 Hellguns & 2 Flamers. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 208 Grenadier Squad 2: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 9 Storm Troopers w/ 7 Hellguns & 2 Flamers. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 208 Infantry Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon & Iron Discipline. 4 Guardsmen w/ 2 Lasguns & 2 Meltaguns. Sharpshooters. 61 Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93 Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93 Infantry Squad 3: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93 Heavy Support Leman Russ Demolisher: Hull Heavy Bolter. 155 1000 60 Infantry 3 Vehicles Stormies take an Objective, or held back to counter-rush Orks. Demolisher backs them up. Platoon sits back and engages enemy at range. I have notrious shooting luck, so hopefully the Sharpshooters doctrine will help out a bit. Platoon Command is for emergency anti-tank, HQ Command is for leadership. I have desigend the Storm Troopers so that I can get into cover, sit there and then roast the enemy as they try to break through. I can also pull a drive-by with 4 Flamer weapons. Oh, and I tend to play on small tables, and it is inevitable that my Command Squads get into combat - so I tried to give them SOME bite (well, its more of a nibble) while I re-position my guns. Your thoughts/advice/criticisms please.

I like your command set-ups, and I'm willing to entertain the idea of a flamer-death Stormtrooper squad, but I think 2 ST squads in 2 Chimeras is too many for a 1000 point list. Remove one of the two and either bulk up the infantry or add a tank.
I also dislike Sharpshooters, but it's largely due to mathematical reasons. In practice, it may turn out to be better than I think.

It has been pointed out that Idistinctly lack anti-tank firepower, and have come up with the following - is it better or worse than before (bearing in mind small tables and lots of terrain)
Doctrines Grenadiers Iron Discipline Sharpshooters
HQ
Command Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Honorifica Imperialis & Iron Discipline. 3 Guardsmen w/ Laspistols & CCWs. Veteran w/ Company Standard, Laspistol & CCW. 87
Troops
Grenadier Squad 1: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 8 Storm Troopers w/ 6 Hellguns & 2 Meltaguns. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 206
Grenadier Squad 2: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 8 Storm Troopers w/ 6 Hellguns & 2 Meltaguns. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 206
Infantry Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolter & Iron Discipline. 4 Guardsmen w/ 4 Lasguns & Sharpshooters. 56
Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Infantry Squad 3: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Fast Attack
Sentinel Squadron: 1 Sentinel w/ Heavy Flamer. 40
Heavy Support
Basilisk: Indirect Fire. 125
58 Infantry 999 4 Vehicles
So, I have the Platoonas a firebase, in front of the Basilisk (I depoly in 1 corner). The CHQ is for leadership, and to take a charge and HOPEFULLY do some damage. The Grenadiers and Sentinel flank the enemy, and deliver flamey-death to them. The actualy troops can deal with enemy armour up close - the Chimera's movement should get them there.
I have a few concerns though:
1) I am unsure if the Basilisk's ID minimum range will be too great on this board (so where points for an upgrade to a Russ?) 2) I only took Sharpshooters on the PHQ to help out for when the enemy approaches - couldnt think of much else for 10 points though (but have realised I couls take an autocannon on the Sentinel)
Oh, I just thought of another option - I could drop Sharpshooters on the PHQ, and drop 1 Stormie from each squad. I should THEN be able to afford to upgrade the Basilisk - should I do this?
So, your thoughts now - better or worse than before?

Drop sharp shooters from everything. Drop the stormies. Take hardened vets with 3 plasmas. Drop sentinel. Buy russ. Upgrade gl/autos to plas/las.

Not an IG player, but if Cityfight II is anything like the last cityfight, hardened vets would be better than stormtroopers as the cover saves compensate far more than a 4+ armour save would. I think, looking at my codex, you'd be better off with Light Infantry+Cameoline even now, given that (as you say) you have plenty of woods and the like to work with.

Well, it is very fluffy, with all the autocannons and grenade launchers, so I'm tailoring my response to the expectation that you want a fluffy list.
If you're using preferred weapons, I'd suggest using the pre-made Cadian doctrines. If you haven't all ready painted them, I'd suggest multi-laser/heavy bolter for the chimeras...Flank AV10 isn't so hot. They'd work fine as a "hill" for your Basilisk. Run 3x5 drop Stormies with plasma guns for AT. The Demolisher wasn't actually all that bad of a pick - proper Cadians don't have any other push-back. I'd vote for a Demolisher (extra armour, heavyy flamer, heavy bolters) AND a second Basilisk. You might also consider mashing a conscript platoon in there as well - maybe you could justify giving them flamers rather than autocannon/grenade launcher.* One less thing for which to buy Sharp Shooters. If you can convince yourself that the Officer's staff don't get down to the rifle range as much as the line troopers, don't take Sharp Shooters for them.+ You may as well shell out the five points extra for a "real" HSO.
*though they do make for a much sturdier weapons platform than ordinary IG due to the larger squad size, you still pay +5 points for -1 BS +fluff aside, sharp shooters sucks except on heavy bolter fire support squads. (Jungle Fighters support squads with Autocannons can also benefit from it)

Doctrines Grenadiers Iron Discipline Sharpshooters
HQ
Command Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Honorifica Imperialis & Iron Discipline. 3 Guardsmen w/ Laspistols & CCWs. Veteran w/ Company Standard, Laspistol & CCW. 87
Troops
Grenadier Squad 1: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 7 Storm Troopers w/ 5 Hellguns & 2 Meltaguns. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 196
Grenadier Squad 2: Veteran Sergeant w/ Hellpistol & Power Weapon. 7 Storm Troopers w/ 5 Hellguns & 2 Meltaguns. Chimera w/ Turret Heavy Flamer & Hull Heavy Flamer. 196
Infantry Platoon Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Bolter & Iron Discipline. 4 Guardsmen w/ 4 Lasguns. 46
Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Infantry Squad 3: 10 Men w/ 8 Lasguns, Grenade Launcher & Autocannon. Sharpshooters. 93
Fast Attack
Sentinel Squadron: 1 Sentinel w/ Heavy Flamer. 40
Heavy Support
Leman Russ Demolisher: Hull Heavy Bolter & Searchlight. 156
1000 56 Infantry 4 Vehicles
Tactics wise, I am going for a static gunline with the Platoon, whilst having a flanking force of the Grenadiers, Sentinel and Demolisher.
I originally did take the Cadian doctrines, but was using less than 5 anyhow, so decided there was no point - I might as well take customised ones so I can add some in in an emergency.
I kinda like the diea of dual-HF Chimeras, and against Orks (Madboy/Shootaboy horde) and Tau, they should be ok? The Sentinel is there to give me yet another template to launch, to clear Kroot out of woods, Orks out of ruins etc. If I face Marines... well, enough templates work (force loads of saves) and the tasty Demolisher pie-plates too. But no, they aren't built yet (and since the weapons cost the same points, I shall consider this deeply).
I took sharpshooters as I usually ahve appaling luckwith my dice - unless it is a Grenade Launcher, for some reason... my GLs have done more damage to my opponents than ALL my armiy combined (this was a dual-Russ variant too!). Hopefully Sharpshooters will work out (if not, I can drop it and have extra points - always good)
Oh, and yes, I am aiming more for a fluff/fun/interesting army, as I have 2 las/plas Guard armies - they tend to get boring quite quickly. I am trying tofind a way to make agressive Guard work (tried once before...disasterously) - and theorised that at 1000 points, 4 vehicles storming a flank, with 40 Infantry facing you, is going to be slightly nerve-wracking.
Ps, I play on small-ish boards, fairly terrain heavy, and my regular opponents are Orks and Tau, with Nids and SM chucked in from time-to-time.

Hmm...I'm guessing then that you're doing this out of available models? If that's the case, and if you're not married to sharp shooters, just get rid of it. I can see the point of the flamers considering everyone builds their usual army against their usual opponents. Flamers are obviously great against opponents in cover and autocannon actually are versatile so long as they have the prospect of a shot at AV12. If you take away Sharp Shooters, the Grenadier Veteran Sergeants and remove a few grenadiers/grenade launchers, you'd be able to squeze that Basilisk in here. With heavy terrain barrage will be very handy. I'd also vote for plasma over melta on the Grenadiers, in case the chimera is immobilized outside of 12" from an enemy vehicle. And try to get extra armour on the Demolisher, and *possibly* extra armour and smoke launchers on the chimeras...if they're going to try to imitate rhinos, they'll want the costume.
