Subject: Rogue trader becoming an Inquisitor?

Didn't know if this would belong here or the Background forum but here it goes.
Wanted to know if a rogue trader could somehow become an Inquisitor for the the IoM? I read on lexicanum that Inquisistors are raised from a young age but could there be exceptions to this rule? Perhaps they had info on the IoM and blackmail their way to being an Inquisitor? Any other ideas would be appreciated. I am kitbashing a few inquisitors for my space marine army and enjoy having some kind of fluff reason as why they would have them. If I am way off its because I have never played an Inqusition army before. Thanks for the help.

I think the answer is no. Anyone can be a henchman, certainly, but I always got the sense inquisitors were bred that way. Introduced to science, the dark arts, pieces of history that are oherwise kept secret, etc.

The Officio Assassinorum would ensure that this person did not live to see the next sunrise, and would probably also kill every man, woman and child in his crew, sell his ratings into servitorhood, and take his wealth for their own.
Sometimes, however, an Inquisitor (often of Ordo Xenos) "retires" to the life of a Rogue Trader, receiving his Warrant of Trade and the command to bring the light of the God-Emperor unto the hinterlands of space, purging it of the threat of the Xeno so that Mankind may take their worlds for its own.

Lexicum says.
Potential Inquisitors come from all walks of life, from humble agri-workers' sons to highborn nobles' daughters,[5] but are usually drawn from the Progena of the Schola Progenium who show the most promise[3].
Some Inquisitors are raaised to become such - raised in a Schola and then trained in a appropriate way - eg: (from Lord of Night.Mita is on the path to become one till the events of that novel)
Taken directly from the Scholastia Psykana on Escastel Sanctus at the age of twelve and trained on the fortess world of Safaur-Inquis, she proved herself a powerful and skilled psyker. At thirty-one years of age, she had served six years as a Explicator under Inquisitor Petrai Levoix of the Ordo Xenos. Among her recorded deeds were overcoming the puppet wyrds of the Ork warlord leading Waaagh! Shalkaz; defeating the Magi of a genestealer cult in the Marquand Straits; "breaking the mind" of a Hruddite Demagogue in the Pleanar campaign; and the capture of a Witchblade in the Ylir uprisings, which earned her a citation from the Congresium Xenos.
Others are exactly that Henchmen or other people in their retinue that the Inquistor considers are worthy of the honour - anyone can be made an Intrrogator and later an Inquistor by their master, although the Inquistor does need to be careful, as although they don't really answer to anyone they will be held accountable by their peers for their pupils actions and deeds.............
An example of what youa re looking for would be a Inquisitor taking the child of a Rogue Trader into her retinue to hopefully train up to be an Inquistor..............indeed the blackmail might be the other way round.

Ah thank you for the replies. It does make sense that the IoM would hunt down anyone who tried to black mail them, they do it for less.
I like the idea of a retired Inquisitor becoming a rogue trader, could be a viable possibility. I also like the idea of a rogue trader of some kind being given command, if they were somehow apart of their retinue.

I am trying to figure out what being a Rogue Trader has to do with being an ally detachment on a battlefield.
While some RTs are wealthy enough to own armies, and may have rendered services to a Chapter that gives him a boon to call on them for aid (once)... the RT himself is not going to be on the battlefield. It's dangerous down there, he might get shot!
When you are as wealthy as an RT typically is, you pay other people to do your dirty work for you, it's the perks of being a Rogue Trader. Unless, of course, someone wants to test the mettle of your ship. Then... then it is on like Donkey Kong.

If a ship to be salavaged is on a planet - doesn;t the RT have to be the first tos et foot on it to claim it?
Seems like a good reason right there

I always though rogue traders had recieved a warrent of trade from the imperium? So in theory anyone could become a rogue trader incuding Inquisitors, if thats how it works. Not all rogue traders are meant to be pirates. Would be reverse of what OP is looking at

Not if it's his crew salvaging it. They work for him/her. Also, it doesn't much matter who steps on it first if another RT is there with a bigger, better-armed armada.
