I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into this. I have good super glue for modeling, I clean things in soapy water before gluing. Yet it feels like whether it sticks or not depends on the weather. Does anyone know what the variables are that cause superglue to work one day and not not work another?

Catalyst for superglue is moisture (i think) so on a more dry day, it would take longer to go off, on a particularly humid day it would go off faster, but have a weaker bond.

Also if the parts do not fit together perfectly flush, then theres not a huge amount of contact, making things tricky. Use Gel superglue for anything that may have a slight gap to fill.

Other than that... it doesnt really stick to itself very well, so after one failed join, the glue you applied first time around needs removing before having another attempt.

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

What brand are you using? How old is the superglue? Both can have an impact. GW glues are notorious for being bad (I have no experience with them) and old glue can work less well.

At the moment I'm using Roket rapid. I don't buy anything from GW. It was certainly a good glue when I first got it. I stuck the whole of Super Dungeon Explore with it and I was impressed with how easy and fast it was.

Recently I got some resin stuff from impact, and that was a nightmare, it was like Superglue didn't work at all. But then sometimes it did work...

I was talking to a friend who was having the same problem trying to stick metal horrors together, and basically gave up (not sure what superglue). It just got me thinking that, it really annoys me when it doesn't work, and I'm never sure what to do about it. I figured Dakka would know.

I have tried cutting out a very tiny piece of tissue paper and gluing that between the joints to give it something to grip. That works well, but I can't help feeling that it's somehow bad and wrong.

If the fumes don't make your eyes water any more then its too old.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Superglue goes off pretty damn fast, I recommend against buy large bottles of the stuff, you end up wasting lots of it.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I found the trick to use small bottles and always keep the top part, well, on the top. If I lay them down, I find, they will stop working. Also the whole will get covered up with glue if you lay them down.
