With the upcoming release of the Tyranid codex in January, it appears as though the Harpy will be getting a proper model. So, my question is about the legality of using a previously custom made Harpy as a Harpy in the new codex environment. I don't know if there are any precedents for this (i.e. a codex not having a model then getting one in the newest iteration), but I wanted to get an idea on the communities feelings.

I feel like there are probably a few things involved in using my scratch built guys - size, biomorphs/weapons, and looks. If it looks like a Harpy, is about the same size, and has the right weapons is it ok? Tournament organizers please chime in as well as I would like to get more into tournaments in the future.

Thanks!

Usually as long as it looks good, is about the right size, has the right guns, it's fine.

It's people that used a Warrior (or old Carnifex, or old Hive Tyrant) to build into a Harpy that are going to be sad (seen it).

So long as your model has a similar profile, you will generally be fine.

There have been a few similar situations over the years, where people wound up with converted stand in models that were vastly different to the model that wound up being released (the defiler, and the battle wagon being the two most obvious examples)... A lot of tournaments did start to disallow extremely different conversions in those cases.

You would need to run your model past the organiser of the tournament you're looking to enter to be sure, though.

Tervigons as well. Some people had them based off of Carnifexes and on a Carnifex base... which is significantly smaller than an actual Tervigon

That way,then left

If the size and the base are right, you should be fine.
It's all a matter of how close your model is to the official one, and how cool it looks.

Well I think they look pretty darn cool

However, seeing as how it appears the new Harpy is on a typical flyer stand, mine might be too small. Made it with a 3rd edition Carnifex torso green stuffed to a Ravener tail with the wings from the Hobbit Balrog. Added Stranglers and Scything Talons from the Hive Tyrant kit. We'll see I guess!

Thanks everyone for the replies!
