So I have finally gotten around to painting up some of my dwarves from the Big fantasy box from 2 editions ago (blood island?). My back log of un painted miniatures shows how little I've bought recently. I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel to be working on miniatures this old, but I have to say I really enjoy painting the little buggers! I never wanted to play a dwarf army, but all the hair and armor is fun to paint. A buddy of mine has a huge army of dwarves from various editions that he picked up on ebay that I'm going to have a go at, should be interesting. I'll post more pics of stuff once I get them painted and photos are taken. C&C welcomed and appreciated!

The red looks a bit flat, especially on the shield. Otherwise, nice job, I really like the Battle for Skull Pass dwarf hero.

After looking at the pictures I was thinking the same thng about the shield. I'm also thinking of going back and doing his one exposed sleeve a different color to break up the red a bit. This little guy was a test of the color scheme for the rest of the miniatures and on the other units I only use the red on the banding on theior tunics. I use various colors for their sleeves to make it look like they are wearing uniform armnor over their own shirts. Any suggestions to make the shield pop a bit more?

Well, it looks like there are a few runes on the top of his shield that you painted red over, maybe paint them gold, also give the shield some highlights, other than that, cool mini

Its funny, I noticed those when I painted it and just thought they were scratches that had been picked up sitting in a box of minis waiting to be painted for 6 years. I figured if they were runes they would be raised like the anvil on the shield, not engraved. Looking at some other pics of this mini online though I can see they are indeed runes. I will go back and give the shield a wash and some highlights, see how that goes. Thanks for the advice!

You could repaint the golden bits on the shield with black, then apply the gold on top of it but not the edges, that gives your gold a bit more shine and creates some contrast with the red on the shield.

Nice that you're tackling the backlog, its a good feeling to get stuff done!
