I'm currently working through my half of the DV - set, and i would like to ask how to paint coloured metallic fairly simply?
I've googled it, and the results are; a light silver base --> 1 - 'several' layers of a wash with the desired colour.
However some people suggest it won't work with GW's current range of washes.

Would it work with GW's current washes? Could it work with a glaze? Any good suggestions for a another company where I might find a suitable Ink?

Cheers!

Army Painter has a line of washes/inks that in my experience are a bit thicker than GWs (and give you more in the bottle for less money which could help with those multiple layers of wash you'll need.)

I used the AP soft tone for a nice clouded, light bronze on some undead shields.

You can mix straight into the silver too before applying it. I used to make all sorts of metallics on the palette before I got lazy...

Thanks for the help!

I checked my FLGS, and I have the choice between:

P3 Green Ink (seem fairly light in colour)
Army Paints Green Tone Ink (seem to be a lot darker)
Vallejo Green Ink (didn't get a look on that one)

Which paints are easiest to work with? Will a light tone ink give the colour shift I'm looking for?

Cheers

The best way to paint coloured metallic is to buy coloured metallic!

Don't waste your time with silver and washes unless you're simply going for tinted silver. If you actually want a coloured metallic, just buy a coloured metallic.

Testors sells some coloured metallics, I've personally used Aqueous Hobby Colour. I think Tamiya makes some coloured metallics. Go to a model aircraft/car hobby store and they often carry a range of metallics.

This was done with Aqueous Hobby Colour, which are acrylics. If you're willing to try enamels, there's heaps more options as well.
