Subject: Sigmar's Blood anyone?

Auspicious Aspiring Champion of Chaos

Just picked this up on impulse, because apparently I have no control over my wallet in the game store...
Anyone else pick this up? I'm really pretty impressed at first glance. Its kind of a puzzler given that its specific to just two armies- but I love the little details like named champs, musicians and little tweaks to different units (like a "character" corpse cart with +1 str).
Reading through- this is the kind of thing that got me into the game in the first place. Makes me really wanna play a ladder campaign again...
Anyone else got thoughts?

I thought it was neat. Kind of thought it was a throwback of sorts to the old WHFB campaign packs, minus the cardboard terrain.
It mainly seems to be a vehicle to drive sales for those particular armies, and specific terrain pieces, whilst creating a campaign and some fairly interesting fluff around them. That will induce rage in some, but I don't mind.
I agree with you Red, this is also the kind of thing that got me into the game. Grudge of Drong was an impulse buy years ago, and it ballooned into an army I still haven't painted fully. I got the other Campaign packs from years ago, but can't remember the names.
Its got a cliffhanger ending, perhaps more campaign books are coming to continue the story. I'd say the Dwarves can't be too happy with a newly resurgent Sylvania right on their doorstep.
All in all, I'm happy with the purchase.

I picked up escalation instead. But I think I'm going to head back and get this as well. It sounds very good from your review. I never picked up any of the campaign packs back in the day. This could be the way to finally force me to collect the undead!

I thought it was a very enjoyable read. I will be playing it in the coming weeks with a new player who has just started collecting Empire. Having looked at it, we both think it will be a good way for him to start his collection and learn the different units the army.
I just hope that GW keeps going with this kind of thing. I would love to see one featuring my main army, the ogres.

I think, like Triumph and Treachery before it, it's something worth considering if you're part of a gaming group, especially if there's some VC/Empire players among the group (though I imagine it'd be easy to write other armies in too). This allows you to share the cost of the book and gives you another nice way to play the game.
Not something for the WHFB nomads though.

I picked it up too, and am very impressed with it.
The old campaign packs were some of the best bits of old WHFB. Loved those things. Idol of Gork was the best.
This one doesn't seem as open as first glance, like the old ones that gave guidlines for armies rather than the army list (though there was an 'army list' in the historical section). But it wouldn't take much effort to throw your own units in instead.
Really looking forward to starting this with a mate

Two questions to those who already own it:
How's the quality of the fluff? I know this is kind of subjective, but is it more in line with the old campaign sets, providing background on the conflict, motivation for the sides and actually describing the conflict in a pseudo-historical manner, or is it more like the stuff the writers recently churn out, making up, for example, all the place names as they go instead of referencing past background and mostly describing battle scenes ("Volkmar went over the hill at the front of (insert most recently released units here) and whacked A, B and C before he proceeded to stomp D, E and F...")?
Also, what's the rough fluff/scenario/artwork vs product photo ratio?
Have been inundated with work and didn't have a chance to leaf through the book personally, so any help would be much appreciated!

I thought the quality of the fluff was adequate-to-good. The plot-line has some clever bits, and I like all the new characters, not so much the existing ones: (Volkmar is dull with emotions ranging from righteous fury to cold rage). On the other hand, I get a kick out of the White Wizards, Whispering Nell, and the Necromancer Ghorst.
The book is kind of a surprise- they really didn't compromise and try to make it a "Oh, you could just make the bad guys Orcs or whatevs" situation. This campaign's for Empire and VC. There ya go.
It's got pretty much nothing to offer a tournament gamer, but its pretty inspiring for someone who might want to run their own mini-campaign. I appreciate that, and so voted with my wallet- picked it up.

Yeah, I really liked the fluff, and there's heaps of fluff in it too. But I'm not an uber-critical fluff reader, I just enjoy it for what it is.
I really liked the ending too, but I won't spoil that

Sorry for the necro, but I'm interested in this now. So, is the campaign really made to be played by the same two players for the duration?

I guess you could have multiple players, each controlling a certain portion of the main army. One player could control the Witch Hunters contingent, another could control the Necromancers force etc. The only downside is that a few of the forces in the battles srolls are somewhat small.
