Guys,

Me and a friend are starting to intorduce our own house rules, we play 40k.

we already have a couple, such as,

- If you forget to shoot 1 unit and then move onto assault phase, you can go back and shoot with that unit, but forget more than 1 unit, tough!
- We each get to select 1 unit before we write lists, that the OPPONENT cannot use, for instance, my opponent select Terminators, so I have to write a list without them!
- Loser buys biscuits in the next game!
- re-reoll all cocked die, and re-roll die that hit the floor!
- if you're a couple of points over on your list, your opponent gets to add an upgrade to equal value to get the lists as close as possible (we play usually 5K plus in points)

I know some rules are game specific, and some of these can be applied to any game.

Just wondering what house rules you have, be them game specific or be them generic and can be applied to any game?

Rule #1: "Never change the deal", Rule #2: "No names", and Rule #3: "Never open the package."

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the women.

A dice is cocked and must be rerolled if you can't balance another dice on top of it.

Oh yeah, need to mention this other set of house rules. The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. Third rule of Fight Club: Someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over. Fourth rule: only two guys to a fight. Fifth rule: one fight at a time, fellas. Sixth rule: no shirts, no shoes. Seventh rule: Fights will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight.

No really, you have it summed up. We allow SM vehicles, ie Stormtalons to be used by all chapters if you want to have a BA Stormtalon then so be it, just use the points in the dex. No proxies, all 40K models.
A model is armed as it is on the model.

I like to apply this rule from Brikwars to all of the games that I play:

"Things You'll Need:

First and most importantly: fun. It seems obvious, but this item is so often bizarrely forgotten by all types of gamers (especially wargamers) that it bears repeating: don't play a game if you don't mean to have fun. And for the love of God make sure you bring enough to share, because it's not all about you."

House rules with me tend to be person specific. There's one guy who will not even allow a 4+ roll to resolve a rule conflict because he's adamant that nobody is allowed to play by anything other than GW's RAW.

With one of my friends, however, we have the "Taksies Baksies" rule. If one of us forgets to do something, we can go back and do it. But the other person gets to take back one of their actions (or forgotten things) for free. Such as remake a shooting attack.

With another, we go by the rule "If it's stupid, you get a cover save". Whenever we have a rules dispute for shooting, if the target player would be disadvantaged by it, they get a cover save. And anything we can't resolve immediately gets a 4+ roll-off.

I generally think that if you forget it your forfeit it. Part of learning to play a game well is feeling the sting of making mistakes.

I just play with friends on Saturdays, people I am more than happy to just hang out with if no one feels like playing something. All the same, I still value playing a game well -- so "forget it, forfeit it" is my preference totally apart from any competitive motive.
