Anyone foresee GW dumping Ogryns in the next codex update? I read the IG rumour thread, and there didn't seem to be any mention either way. My concern is that these models are still only available in metal, and the rumor of discontinuing Finecast would put their future in jeopardy. Any thoughts?

I hope not. I love Abhumans. I even add mercs to my army and everything. But it seems GW is killing off IG variation and cutting them down to cadian infantry and tanks. So it wouldnt surprise me if they do do it.

I wish they would expand the abhuman section personally.

Personally, I'm not a fan of abhumans, I think it takes away from the "normal humans" theme for me, but to each his own.

could end up being a supplement. But you never know, besides, they are the only heavy hitting close combat unit in the whole codex AND they have a special character + fluff, so i doubt they would disappear. Besides, ratlings even ended up in the rule books battle reps, so someone must like them too!

I don't like the abhumans, but I don't think GW is going to drop ogryns or ratlings.

I don't see them getting dropped. Too much a staple, in my opinion.

Love to see a plastic kit for 'em though.

I could go plastic, a lot of real fun there, probably end up looking like the Rat Ogre from isle of blood no doubt. Either way its waaaay better than the 3rd edition Ogryns I rock with the horns, heres a random google image for you kids out there

There doesn't seem to be an early indication of a plastic kit, and some of the recent trends in packaging are having one box serve as two choices. Maybe include ratlings and ogres as a single kit in a second wave later in 2014? I could just as easily see the abhumans being ditched. Their rules are pretty lackluster, and the models leave a lot to be desired. It'd be a shame, but I don't think they'd be missed by many players.

Two choices form the one box only works if they both share many major components, so those two in a box wouldn't really work.

From what im aware of, in the nids codex there are no finecast units. Also units that dont have models that are being released like doom and mysetic spore are supposedly dropped from the codex. If this is true then GW is either probably going to convert them over to plastic or possibly cut them, or even keep them metal.

After all sisters got updated and all their models are metal. Its just a waiting game until rumors arise.

A little OT, but I just want to see a multi option commissar/lord commissar model in the new codex, pick your own weapons and pose like many other HQs.

Sisters don't really count though. They're not a regular army in the conventional sense of the 40K game. The new Sisters Codex is just an updated set of rules so that existing players can continue to use their old models in the game. It's electronic only (very low production cost and no physical product to carry stock of), and from what we understand, it's actually all fluff that was written several years ago and not released when they decided to publish the codex in White Dwarf which had limited space. You don't really want to use the Sisters as an example, other than to show that there's been a change in philosophy at Games Workshop, and they do actually care a little about their fans, lol. They spent over a decade until the last of the die hard Squat fans gave up. And the joke itself will never die. They weren't going to "Squat" another army. Much easier to just continue to update the rules in a low-cost format. Sisters players won't be happy, but at least they'll still be able to play with their figures.

Hard to say what will come of the Ogryns, but they'll probably end up as plastic. I find it hard to think they'll disappear from the game having been around this long. Stranger things have happened though. How old are the current models? I don't know what year the current figures were issued.

You mean like the new monopose Librarian, Captain and Chaplain figures?

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I was thinking about the non finecast crisis suit commander and the terminator chaos lord, I don't play marines, did they really do that with those new models?

Yeah. Hopefully it's an anomaly. They're decent looking figures, but the multi-part commander was far superior and a multi-part librarian would have been cool (not that I didn't just convert my own, but not everyone converts).

Space Marines sell, so maybe this was a test. They figure they'll automatically sell enough to recoup costs and turn a profit, but they can see how they sell comparatively.

That was soooo stupid. One more Chaplain and Librarian model for variety, certainly. But the old Commander kit was just great, so many options.

personally, I think they would have made great inquisitor henchmen.

I don't see them being taken out altogether. I can see them getting phased out though. You know, make them an option that is really not worth the points and a waste to give us a few years without anyone using them and then cutting them out down the road when they wont be as missed.

IMO, this is the wave of the future. Monopose kits will be the norm with the multi-part kits being the premium products.Ten years down the road, you could produce a plastic Space Marine sprue with 5 monopose models and then a single upgrade sprue for Assault Marines and Devs in separate boxes. Charge $30 for it, and the multipart kits like Sternguard or Vanguard become the premium kits with $60 price tags.

Like it or not, this is where GW is going. Snap-fit models that don't need glue with limited options. If it doesn't have an official model, it doesn't get rules.
