I recently started playing Malifaux and I got Ramos. For his Summon the Swarm ability, he can summon 1, 2, or 3 Steam Arachnids. However, it says the TN is 10 + 3+Tome for each Arachnid. Ramos already has 8+Tome, so summoning 1 or 2 Arachnids would be fine. But if he tried to summon 3, would the casting cost be 19+3Tome? He could get the 19, but I think 3Tome is impossible in this current situation. Any idea of what it means?

pay a soulstone to gain a suit: natural tome from your stat, tome on your card, soulstone for a tome = 3 tomes total

Okay, thanks. Also, do you draw your hand from the Fate Deck and then use the cards in it when you want a more desirable result? The rulebook is pretty confusing on this matter.

Yes, you can replace drawn cards with ones from your hand under most situations that don't involve a negative twist (draw x, pick the lowest).

Replacing is referred to as cheating fate.
