Starting to gather models for a new list. And then putting other units around them. Not sure if this could properly deal with an Escalation force, but here is where I am at with a list so far:

Commander Farsight

Riptide 1 (Ion)

Riptide 2 (Heavy Burst Cannon, EWO, Velocity Tracker, Earth Caste)

Riptide 3 (Ion, Talisman, EWO)

3 man Crisis Team (2 x fusion blasters all round)

1 man Crisis Team (TL missile pod)

1 man Crisis Team (TL missile pod)

1 man Crisis Team (TL missile pod)

10 kroot and hound

10 kroot and hound

XV-9 Hazard Close support (2 x fusion cascades)

Sky Ray

Sky Ray

Farseer on a jetbike

Jetbike squad

Jetbike squad

Hornet (2 x pulse laser)

XV9 fusion cascades: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Tau/TAU-BATTLESUITS-AND-DRONES/TAU_XV9_WITH_FUSION_CASCADES.html

Hornet: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Eldar/ELDAR-HORNET.html

The plan is very simple: kill the enemy troops, then use weight of deep/mobile scoring units to score! What my troops lack in surviveability, I hope they make up for in quantity....

I haven't tried to put together a list involving Eldar before, but I love the look of the hornet and like the idea of the buff for one of the non-earth caste riptides...

Probably drop farsight with the larger crisis unit and the xv9 deep struck behind enemy lines to kill from behind...? and hope to keep at least one crisis back there scoring.

What will I struggle against?

Do single crisis suits still have to take bonding knife ritual?

Yes they do. If something in enclaves CAN take bonding, it MUST.

Your HBC rip should have the ECPA, not the Ion.

You should try to squeeze in the Talisman of Moloch. The psychic defense in this meta is a must. Additionally, if you attach the Farseer to a riptide then that unit will have DTW on 4D6...on a 4+!

You can downgrade to twin-linked on the solo MPs. You're not going to give markerlight support to a one-man team. Save the points.

The cyclic ion blaster sucks. Airbursting frag launcher is better synergy with the burst cannon, but only for giggles. All solo suits should have MPs. The range keeps them alive.

I can't comment on the FW stuff, I'm an East Coast guy we're less forgiving of that sort of thing around these parts .

Otherwise looks good.

Useful and comprehensive. You're definitely right about the solo suits and the missiles. I totally get that now. I'll go back and tweak load outs. But you like the basic shape?

Yeah I do; edit the original list and let's see what it looks like.

You should probably put both jetbike units into 1 unit of 6, otherwise your farseer has no safe bunker. 7 TL shurikan catapults also do a surprising amount of damage as well as being rather tough (MeQ's with cover saves and great movement). I am not sure on the exact pricing of the Hornet or the Skyray, but I would imagine if you swap out the Skyray you can have another Hornet in the Squadron. Skyray works best for skyfire which you have in spades, while an extra 4 strength 8 AP 2 shots a turn will probably do more good. They also are respectable AA when guided giving you 2/3 hits.

Farsight's kinda "meh" by himself. Some of the nine are cool, but you're not using them. I'd be tempted to take a Mark'o commander for Markerlight Support, or a dude with the Talisman of Moloch for the 4D6 DtW roll.

Edit: What's a hornet???

Hornet is a forge world Shooty eldar thing with cheap(ish) lasers as described. I believe (£50 for the rules!) that it can also outflank - which is handy.

The style of play I favour is kind of throw as much must-be-dealt with stuff in the enemy's face for four turns (killing as many troops as possible). Then have as many scoring / denial units in position for the end game as poss.

Edit coming up shortly.

He can attach the Farseer to a Riptide. Combining the bike squads would be foolish. They are for late game capture/contest. THAT'S IT. Any other use of jetbikes outside of a Saim-hann army is missing the point.

Why? They are the most survivable and reliable shooty troops Eldar have access to. Twin Linked shuri cat's are also very good when massed, putting easy wounds on monstrous creatures. At 1850pts 8 troop choices is extravagant, especially when he has the kroot outflanking to take mid field obj while missile crisis can easily hold home ones. So why miss out on a powerful albeit short range unit simply because it would help you in an area you are already powerful at (scoring). There is more then one way to play unit, just because the net says so doesn't mean its the best.

I prefer more troops. And the bikes are the most mobile late on (so great for denial) and Yes, the farseer is there for the Riptides (probably the ion one with the talisman). Edited above and links to the couple of cute random interference Forgeworld units.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd love to drop a sky ray for a hornet but it would necessarily be squardroned (which is not the best) and I would then only have one sky ray and the one riptide with velocity tracker. Quite easy to neutralise my anti air then. When I think of my necron list at 1850 it usually has 4-7 flyers and three squads of wraiths. Three anti air units is marginal. I could easily face 3 Heldrake lists or 3 vendettas both of which can quickly delete my troops (especially the heldrakes). Also you have to think about fmc lists (which there will be more of after Tyranids drops).

Actually, I suspect I may need more. Something else with Skyfire. Shame you can't take O'vesa as a HQ option...

Dropping one Kroot squad gives me both the other riptides with skyfire...

Don't forget the farseer can prescience the riptide hes with and then guide another riptide up to 24" away in same turn, and for other power i would go telepathy for shriek in case someone deep strikes, pods close to you.
