Hello fellow dakkanites

I am looking for peoples views/thoughts/opinions on bretonian pegasus knights?
Are the worth the points cost? What roles do you use them in? If you do not field them why and what do you use in their place?

My thoughts,

First off I love the models, not sure why, they are just cool.I have way more than I would probibly ever field.

I use them to outflank and attack stuff like backfield wizards, guns, warmachines ect.

Like that they are T4 and the pegasus usually land several wounds on their own.

Now things I do not like

55 points each,,,ouch
Let me get this straight,,,magical flying horses that CANNOT take magical banners....wtf,,,,seriously
unit size is usually small do to points cost,so can be beaten off if they fail a LD check.

so what do you all think?

The Bretonnian Pegasus Knight is, arguably, one of the most overlooked and wonderful units in the entire warhammer game. The only real problems they have is overall unit cost, and not being able to take barding for a 2+ save.

The reason those are the only two problems is when you take into account what their primary purpose is, and that comes in the form of the following:

1. Wizard hunting
2. War machine hunting
3. Flank\Rear charges and bonus combat resolution
4. Chaff clearing
5. War machine hunting
6. Redirecting
7. Forcing panic moves

There are a couple more uses, but that's a good idea about their utility. Putting it simply, they are one of the best support units in the game. Most Bretonnian armies will have a very strict fight sequence that they need to adhere to in order to pull off a victory. Having Pegasus Knights on the board allows you much needed flexibility in determining when and where you engage the fow. As an example, if you wanted your knights to hang back and wait a couple of turns, but they are taking heavy cannon fire, in come the Pegasus Knights to either draw the cannon fire or take it out immediately.

They are only ever worth the points in a minimum sized unit of 3 with a musician only (you get the champion upgrade for free, as per usual). You never want a banner, because you will not be trying to attack things head on to gain combat resolution; your other units will have a banner to add. Not to mention that if they unit does fail a break test (which is perfectly likely) that model dies; it just isn't worth it. The musician helps you win combats that are typically close, like tougher war machine fighting and monster hunting. If nothing else, it will allow you to rally them with +1 leadership, a mainstay amoung fast cavalry. And NEVER forget that's what they are, fast cavalry that can fly.

They are, indeed, expensive, but in the right hands the cost is more than worth it. Just understand what they are capable of on the charge, and you will be fine. My personal Bretonnian army never goes to battle without at least one unit of 3 in its ranks.
