Looking at the codex and I was just thinking that a captain with a command squad with apothecary and iron hands tactics equipped properly would be pretty solid to beat ( I'll not say invincible cuz there not). Is my thinking correct?

The only thing with that is the chapter master does NOT unlock a comman squad, so you'd need to pay the tax for another hq.

But going with a mounted captain as stated in OP is perfectly legal. I see you keep suggesting that on numerous threads feasible, are you taking a captain or such also?

Well what I was thinking was

Captain-shield eternal, thunder hammer,artificier armour,bike

Command squad-bikes, storm shields,company champion,apothecary,combi-weapons

Iron hands chapter tactics

That means all models would have a 3++ and feel no pain, and the captain would possibly regenerate a wound each turn to increase the survivability. Throw in some nice melee weaponry and you got yourself a pretty good killing unit.

Really, I usually just use a captain unless i feel like having two HQ's. The Orbital Bombardment and stat increase is sooo much better than than suing just a captain. At over 2000 points I use a Captain and Chapter Master. At under 2000 I just use a captain.

A bike command squad with Apothecary, and (using the supplement) a CM with Thunderhammer, Lightning Claw, Arty Armor and the Chain of the Gorgon (whatever its called, supplement wargear). The CM will be hellishly hard to kill. 4 T5 wounds, 2+/3++, 4+ FnP EW, IWND, and an extra attack on the Shield CM plus the Lightning claw if needed. So yeah, he kills thing with a Command squad. True, you have to buy a Libby/Captain/Chappy, I'd go with the Libby there. Bonus if you ally in from another SM chapter and make that Libby have divination. Or, just take him IH and roll Biomancy for the chance for Endurance in case the Apothecary dies. The Iron Hands CM I listed isn't my idea, he was discussed here:
