Just got a few models of warriors of chaos for christmas. But I have no clue how to paint them, because I'm so used to paint 40k space marines.
I wanted to start with the chaos lord and searched for painting tutorials for the chaos lord. The only thing I've found is called chaos lord, but looks nothing like him. Anyone got an idea?

Just a few things to think before doing the army from my side .

1. Never start a new army painting project with the general. He will be a centerpiece and should look the part so rather go with the humble chaos warrior first. They are easier to paint than the highly detailed character models.

2. Get a concept for the army. With chaos that means either painting everything in the favored colors of the godly marks each model wears (red khorne, green/yellowish nurgle, ...) or going for a kinda unmarked style with one color scheme across the whole army. My chaos lord favors orangish red and forces everybody in his entourage to wear that even if they fav or nurgle. This decision is really important since it really decides how you will paint the models.

3. Decide on basing... There is lots of basing you need to build up before you attach the model to the base.

That's all that comes to mind at this second but you should really plan out the project a little before jumping in since you will paint many models in the chosen scheme. Usually many more than with 40k marines.

Painting these guys is actually quite similar to painting Space Marines in general. They both hard large areas of flat armor which means that the techniques and colors used will be almost of the same. Remember that thier armor is basically warp forged or at least assisted a great deal by warp magic so it can look like just about anything you want it to.

Girl Painting's tutorials are a great resource for you to use. There are a few other painters out there who have also done some great Warriors of Chaos as well. I would check out Blue Moon Mini's showcase videos for some extra inspiration. Google Image search is also your best friend when it comes to inspiration.

Was Blue Moon Mini's series on how to Paint a Chaos Lord the set of videos you watched?

That was going to be my response ; p Yeah GP has done some great WoC vids, I'd highly recommend them as a first step. Also just subscribe to her in general and check her back catalog of videos, she's great.
