I was reading through the Protectorate short story in Wrath. Reading these entries is always entertaining, though they all feel like a zero-sum game in the end.

In it, Thyra (Feora's right-hand woman) has to assassinate a few Cygnaran nobles in a mansion. I was thinking how cool that could be. Seriously! A scenario set indoors could be very interesting. Burning rooms, smashing through walls, collapsing ceilings, epic duels on balconies...

I always think to awesome fight scenes in movies like Django Unchained, Sherlock Holmes (the Robert Down Jr. flicks) or other similar films.

You could print out a map or draw it up on large paper; perhaps finding some maps from Wargame Vault or compiling some other images. Put it down on your gaming table, measure it out to make sure things are okay, and go.

You might even be able to use some D&D tiles and similar tools if they don't have inch demarcations.

Possible Rules

* Whenever a large-based model is slammed into an Indoor Wall, the model takes an unboostable POW 12 attack roll and continues moving. Place a 4" AOE template underneath where the large-based model was moved; that area is no longer an indoor wall and is now Rough Terrain.

* Huge-based models may not be used (their bulk could bring down the whole building!)

* Whenever a template that causes Fire Damage is placed, leave it in place regardless of the cause; that fire remains in place and continues to burn.

* An Indoor Wall is a wall that is less than 2" thick. Indoor Walls are impassable obstacles.

* Sections of an Indoor Wall can be targeted by models wishing to knock down or destroy them. Indoor Walls are automatically hit by melee and ranged attacks, have 5 Vitality, and an ARM of 16. If an indoor wall is destroyed, place a 4" AOE template of rough terrain (representing the collapsed wall) on the point where the wall was targeted.

* Indoor fights should still be more cluttered than other battlefields, but still have enough room to maneuver. It is recommended that hallways and throughfares be at least 6" wide, and narrower hallways still be at least 3" wide.

What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your ideas as to how matches of Warmachine/Hordes set on an indoor battlefield could come about.

The other side of the internet

There's already rules for buildings, just count each wall as a separate building for hp purposes. Also there's rules for being slammed into obstacles.

There is a company out there (perhaps more than one) who sell parts that can be put together to make dungeons, caves, etc. My group commonly uses them while playing mordheim and Malifaux to represent dungeons and sewers. If you have enough you could definitely do something with warmachine, but units can be tough trying to stay in coherency.

They are kind of like the Space Hulk tiles, only 3D. Other games also have various tiles and such that could be used like PP's Level 7. But they are obviously not the right genre, but could give you some ideas.

Other idea is to just make a board that represents being inside a very large building or cave or cave complex, etc. And example of something like this might be Malifaux terraclips.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

It would be tough to have heavy jacks in such a scenario. They couldn't go upstairs in any but the largest buildings.

12+ tonnes of iron and steel aren't going to do much for structural integrity.

Even Light Jacks would be pushing the limit.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
