Subject: Void Shield Generator: Size

Infiltrating Broodlord

So, I got a pleasant surprise from my family in the form of Stronghold Assault, plus quite a few models that I already knew that I was getting. So today, after getting home from work, I spent the rest of my Christmas pouring over the book and painting up some models. Now, something rings rather odd on the subject of the void shield generators. I haven't seen any actual details on the size of these things, so I am rather curious... The rule states the void shield zone projects out 12 inches from any point of the generators. Am I to interpret that that any player with sufficient time and guile could make shield generators that cover the entire deployment zone? Or am I missing something, and there is a max size for these things?

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

There is no model for the thing, so you are left to your own devices.
If you make one that covers the entire deployment zone it probably won't be accepted by tournaments/your group unless they are feeling really generous.
It is a medium building I believe so something like the Bastion is a good reference size.

BRB page 92 gives you a Size Chart for determining the size of a building.
Less than 6"x6" of area is a small building.
Up to 9"x9" is a medium Building
up to 12"x12" is a large building

Problem is the datasheet doesn't say if it's small, medium or large.
Only that it has battlements.

You know, I totally thought I remembered it having a size.
Must have been remembering an earlier discussion here on dakka about Sizing it in regaurds to the number of Shields.
At any rate, Mine is a Small Building(CPU Fan with Battlements made of Plasticard screwed into a board)

The rules for the Void Shield generator suggest that you would want to limit the size due to strategic considerations. The larger it is, the easier it is to get inside the shields and ignore it.

What do you think the cover save of an Aegis Defense Line sized, length and maybe double width but clearly height, shield generator would provide?
* Not serious, though it does highlight the need to give us dimensions, and while they are at it throw some 'datasheets' out for other races too!

I don't plan on ever really building any. Actually, scratch that. Might build some for my Iron Reavers chapter. I was just a little curious since I run a nearly 100% assault Tyranid army, and I felt a little green about the possibility of a triple generator just sitting over my opponent's deployment zone without even the massive amount of fire my hordes of termagants have doing a single wound.
