Hello everybody. I'm new to these forums, and Warhammer 40k in general. I was given some space marines and I'm really interested in making a Salamander Chapter themed army. I've made a list and feedback would be much appreciated.

Forgemaster Vulkan He'Stan

Tactical Marine Squad (10)
-Flamer
-Missile Launcher

If you're taking Vulkan you really want some melta in your list. Go read his rules and you'll see why.

I don't play salamanders but the general view is to use drop pods with your tacs to get their close range weapons.. Well... Close.

Maybe swap missile launchers for combi meltas and stick them in pods?

Ok I reread his rule and I noticed that it applies to meltas and not just flamers. What if I did something like this..

Forgefather Vulkan He'Stan

[190]

Tactical Squad (9)
Sergeant (1)
-Flamer
-Multi-Melta
-Drop Pod

[205]

Tactical Squad (9)
Sergeant (1)
-Flamer
-Multi-Melta
-Drop Pod

[205]

Assault Squad (9)
Sergeant (1)
-Thunder Hammer

[220]

Ironclad Dreadnought
-Heavy Flamers (2)
-Drop Pod

[185]

Total: [1005]

If I split my Tactical Squads into Combat Squads, do I still have to put the 10 in a drop pod or could I do something like 5 with a melta in a drop pod and have the 5 with flamers deploy normally?

On you Combat Squad question, you can either have the 10 come down in a transport and then immediately break apart or you can have 5 deploy normally and 5 come in the pod.

On your list, I actually like the assault squad. I'd have a flamer and melta gun on the Ironclad Dreadnought, not just one flamer. The Tactiacl Squads are good, however would benefit from Combi Meltas. Good Luck.

Yeah, I'd prefer combi meltas to multi meltas, as multi meltas snap shoot the turn they disembark.

Looks a lot better though

Ok So I played a 1000 point game and I decided to make some adjustments..

Vulkan He'Stan
[190]

Tactical Squad (9)
-Flamer
-Combi Flamer
-Drop Pod w/ Deathwind Missile Launcher
[191]

Tactical Squad (5)
-Melta
-Combi Melta
-Rhino
[125]

Tactical Squad (5)
-Melta
-Combi Melta
-Rhino
[125]

Venerable Dreadnought
-Multi Melta
-DCCW w/ Heavy Flamer
-Drop Pod w/ Deathwind Missile Launcher
[185]

Assault Squad (5)
-Flamer x2
[95]

Assault Squad (5)
-Flamer x2
[95]

The dreadnought drops in turn one and hits a tank or troops. Vulkan+9 tactical marines drop pod in turn 2 along with the 2 assault squads. The 2 tactical squads in rhinos can go tank hunting or capturing objectives. What do you think?

The deathwind MLs have to snap shot on the turn you come in, and since they are templates they cannot fire so they are points wasted.

You would do better to swap the rhinos for drop pods for no change in points and better tank killing ability.

With the 40pts saved from the DWMLs you can bump up each assault squad by 1 man, also the assault squad should swap they jump packs for a drop pods so they can flame some guys when they come in.

Iron clads don't have chapter tactics I think and thus don't benefit from Salamanders Chapter Tactics (Master Crafted Flamers)

Ok i sadly can't afford any drop pods right now :( with the models I currently have, I was able to put this list together..

Vulkan He'stan
[190]

Command Squad (5)
-Flamer x5
-Drop Pod
[160]

Tactical Squad (8)
-Flamer
-Combi-Flamer
-Rhino
[162]

Tactical Squad (8)
-Flamer
-Combi-Flamer
-Rhino
[162]

Venerable Dreadnought
-Powerfist w/ storm bolter
-Multi-Melta
-Drop Pod
[160]

Ironclad Dreadnought
-Powerfist w/ Storm Bolter
-Seismic Hammer w/ Melta
-Drop Pod
[170]

Now I have 2 drop pods coming down turn 1 and both dreadnoughts benefit from the master crafted meltas. Sorry if I'm reviving a dead thread by the way..
