Hi dakka I've just read chapter 9 of Horus rising, And am confused. samus, my first thought was daemon, but that can't be right, so, does anyone know what he/it was?

Daemon wouldn't explain the vox/whispering.

I imagine Samus is nurgle considering what Jubal turned into.

Sure it could, chaos doesn't just manifest as a physical daemon, it can manifest as all sorts of things, and spectral voices are a perfect, subtle manipulation. Daemons ultimately are raw emotions made whole right? A voice in your head makes plenty of sense as a way of gaining a foothold in real space. In fact, he...Jubal? I think, it's been a while, ends up being possessed by a Daemon, so that's pretty conclusive.

Ah. I remember Horus Rising. Honestly, someone should have just surprised Abnett for dumb things like Perpetuals and otherwise let him write all of the Horus Heresy. Horus Rising was easily among the best, if not the best of the series I've yet read.

Samus shows up again in know no fear. (And possibly elsewhere) he is definitely a daemon and really a very powerful daemon prince I would say.

I think I remember now actually.. there is a gaunts ghosts novel. (One of the later ones.. forget the name) where there is a chaos soldier who is hinted to be possessed by Samus.(suggesting he has lost a lot of power in the 10k years since the heresy.

"Samus. That's the only name you'll hear. Samus. It means the end and the death. Samus. I am Samus. Samus is all around you. Samus is the man beside you. Samus will gnaw on your bones. Look out! Samus is here."

There was a time (2012) when there were lots of warp-entities. Right before the last Codex, Chaos was chaotic, not just four gods. Independent Daemons, lesser Chaos Gods, Undivided Daemon Princes.... It was madness.

Samus is an unaligned Greater Daemon, or an undivided Greater Daemon. Since they are not restricted to the big four, Undivided Daemons are the most interesting, original and fun.

I refuse to believe that he has turned "Nurgle" or "Tzeentch" or whatever after march 2013.

It is also a missed opportunity.
Spoiler:
It eventually turned into a punching ball for Ultramarines. It reaches the "come ON, Samus, you can´t defeat even ONE single space marine armed with a knife?!?" point in "Know no Fear".

By the way:
Spoiler:
Did you realised that the world where Samus appears, where the full story of the Heresy begins, is a world called Terra/Earth, ruled by an Emperor, claiming that it is the original planet Earth and that the Emperor (the other one) is lying?

There was a conspiracy theory claiming that the position of planet Earth on the official Galactic Map of the setting does not match the real position of planet Earth, and that 63-19 -or planet Earth according to its inhabitants- actually matches the correct position.

It was just called Blood Pact. He is just as powerful, since he has been living in the pacter for a long time, and when he burned Jubal out.

Samus is a power-armoured super-warrior who roams around hunting and killing Space Pirates, eldritch horrors, giant brains, demons, and planets. She has also been known to run really fast.

I refuse to believe that nobody saw this post coming.

Not super-warrior, she's a bounty hunter. I saw it coming, was disappointed I missed the chance to be the one to make it.

Chozo-enhanced! I didn't want to say "super-soldier", since it's not really true. Also planets tend to explode when she's around. She's basically an Inquisitor.

Yeah, Samus is definitely a daemon.

There are more daemons out there in more forms than just the ones in the daemon dex. There are hundreds of chaos powers, we only really hear about the 'big four' because they're so powerful compared to the rest.

I always thought Samus was a blonde girl with a penchant for power armor acrobatics and skintight blue rubber bodysuits...

To each their own, I suppose.

in fairness an average human who looks at the space marines could be forgiven for saying a standard astartes isn't even human

I guess as most said already that Samus is a greater undivided daemon entity. And I m sure as I recall the xavier jubal incident that the most suitable thing that he transformed into was a chaos spawn. At the start he got physical enhancement and super strenght but the final state was more spawn-like..

Killing is easy. Being politically correct is a pain in the ass...
