Hey guys, what the title says!

The playstyle i was looking at for empire would be firepower, eg lots of handgunners and artillery, prolly a steam tank too, for skaven i was thinking of massive clanrat blobs and arty support, eg WARP LIGHTNING CANNONS!

Well can't say much for empire other than get the hellblaster...its awesome from when I have played against it anyways.

Skaven there is quite a lot of options. Most of the basics you can get in the Island of Blood set. I will just say the units that I use and like but there are a lot of other models people use that are good too!

Lords and heroes I would go with a Grey Seer at 1500 and above point levels. The magic for skaven people say is really good but I have found it to be just alright not super good but decent. Grey seer can have access to the dreaded thirteen which I have yet to cast (25+ to cast needs a lot of dice)
Definitely a warlord for under that with a warlock engineer and a chieftain (if you need/want a battle standard)

Core
I always go with a large block of 50+ slaves at least as a blocker unit out front at 1000 points and above that I like going with another 50+ block since they are so cheap.

I like to have clan rats as well for my other force. They are pretty decent and cheap. They can use weapon teams which are really awesome. Poisoned wind mortar and warpfire thrower are the best options by far ---- misfire charts are awful though so make sure to be careful where you shoot and place them

Storm vermin I recently tried but didn't find them as worth it since they cost quite a bit but I just didn't get them into combat very quick.

Special
I really like gutter runners and you can use night runner models for them if you want. I like them ALOT with poisoned attacks and slings and are really good at what they do behind the lines since they can scout.

Rat ogres - these guys are overcosted but in groups of 4-8 are not bad if you can go against a unit that isn't that good.because they get a lot of attacks and a fair number of wounds

Rares
Hell pit abomonation is a pretty good choice because people get scared of it haha it has some pretty good attacks and regeneration and lots of wounds and is just hard to kill and a chance to come back to life if it does die

Warp Lightning Cannons are really good and are considered cheap for what they do. Lots of people go with 2 since they are cheap

If you are just starting you can get clanrats cheap on ebay from the Island of Blood set and same with the warlords and weapon teams. You can definatly get a good start for an army with the stuff from island of blood...you need ALOT of bodies which is the whole idea of Skaven so 100-150 bodies for 1000-1500 is a good start. Hope that gives you a good idea of what are decent units.

Skaven over the man-things Kill-Kill NOW!!!

1. Skaven Fluff is miles better.

2. Thanquol

3.Ohhh you actually care about the army and not the fluff here.....

Core
Slaves- extremely cheap actually reasonably versatile (can be used in small block or large tarpits. Personally i use 20 blocks with slings.

Clanrats-Your bread and butter troops tarpit and bunker guys, Or give them a bell.

Stormvermin- our elite troop and our only access to armor and s4 attacks

Weapons Teams-
Warpfire thrower- Tricky but when you get it right it changes games.
Poison wind mortar- Anti-chaos warrior weapon of choice. take 2.
Ratling gun- Meh pretty good if you want to order one go ahead.
Doomflayer-Weaker doomwheel.... okay.

Nightrunners- never have run them no idea.

Giant Rats- The Skaven redirector/ Fast cav use them wisely.

Rat Swarms- Swarms are terrible under 8th, only use these if you really love the model.

Specials
Gutter Runners-Now we are talking these guys get behind lines destroy warmachines and generally screw up the battle plan.
Warp grinder-cool looking but not that good

Plague Censer bearers- Looneys throw them into to provide a fair amount of high strength attacks because they die quickly.

Rat Ogres- Awesome Monstrous infantry, to run large units Throt becomes necessary.

Plague Monks- My personal favorite. 7 pts for 3 Attacks at s 3 and t 4. Add in a plague furnace and plague banner to make meatgrinder of doom.

Poison wind Globadiers-No Idea never used them.

Jezzails-Useful but to expensive for their cost.

Rare (also known as fill this first then core)
Hell-pit Abom- get this guy he draws all the attention. Also he fights really well and occasionally when he dies he gets back up again.

Warp-Lightning cannons- The bees knees smack talking awesome sauce. Get 2. (no this is not optional) When you learn to use these right they devastate your enemies.

Plagueclaw catapult- pretty good larger version of the mortar suffers from being in the same category as all these othe awesome weapons.

Doomwheel-The Hamster Wheel of Death, Yeah your gonna want one of these also.

Coincidetally in a 2400 pt game you can fit a HPa 2 Warp ligthning cannons and A doomwheel.

Heroes.
Assassin- Yeah its obvious what he does and he does it well with a built in 4++ ward.

Chieftan-BSB you are going to need one Convert out of the stormvermin box.

Warlock Engineer-cheap plentiful heores to carry stupid little items. Can also be upgrade to wizards. Useful.

Plague priest- the bad ass Wizards give em a ward and a flail and watch em go to town. Also the Plague Furnace is awesome.

Trecth Craventail-Hilarious but not very good.

Snikch- Expensive but he kills people.

lords
Grey Seer-Yeah our Level 4 and bell rider. pretty self explanatory

Warlord, A bad combat character but he can be fun with certain item combos or on top of a rat ogre leading a rat ogre charge.

Verminlord-They just aren't worth it right now but if you want a large Rat deamon he is your guy. (he is the only thing in the book i can't justify using at some point, that said I have used him and he is underwhelming..)

Thanquol and Bone ripper- Funny and good fun.

Queek headtaker-Semi-competitive mix with a large unit of stormvermin for hilarious results.

Ikit Claw-Cool looking and useful, but unreliable.

Lord Skrolk- My favorite clan leader, never worth his points but if you want to run a Pestilens list he is necessary.

Throt the Unclean, Useful in Rat Ogre heavy lists or a horde of giant rats.

Those are my thoughts. take from that what you will
