I'd try and go for a good mix, especially if you're going mid or late heresy, as by that point both sides have taken a beating and are having to patch together what they can. It also prevents squads looking too samey.

the ways marine models are being sold nowadays, even the basic squad has parts from different marks in them so it is getting harder to NOT mix unless you spend a lot more $ or have others looking for specific marks and are willing to trade.
personally, I think having them seperate with different marks representing different squads would be cool. Like
Mark 2- assault squads
mark 7- tactical squads
mark 6- dev squads
so on and so forth. Then as you do your characers, it could be seen where they came from in the raks to add a bit of backgroundto your squads if you like.

What i personally o is mix and match willy nilly and use models from different armies to do that with. All of my "veteran models are made using space wolf models, Had i had enough blood angel models, I mights made my devs from them but as it is, only the vets are made to stand out like that. Wish i coulda done with all of them.
