Evening all. I'm trying to find a nice muted orks flesh paint scheme using the citadel colours. I have got my greasy mitts on a boss snikrot and want a scheme that looks shady and muted.

Cheers guys and gals

Mix some grey into the normal Ork colors to give it a muted tone.

Have you see n Nerdfest's thread? ? He has some lovely Ork skin schemes - check out page 132. There is an explanation of how he attained those skin ones around the same page.

Calling those who want to see W.I.P? I woke this morning (good start to the day!) and had a plethora of different medications thought about having some toast for breakfast then decided I couldn't be bothered; so I had a Gweneth Paltrow and made my way to the Nerd Lair. pressing the books in the right order to enable the case to swing inwards lit by torches held aloft in iron sconces I followed the winding stair seeing creatures of the night in the flickering torch light following me dancing across the walls! after what seemed an age I emerged into the Lair and took down my brush from the wall held with it's partner behind a comical skull.... and got painting.

these two models again amazed me at how much character they have! only thing I didn't like was the tiny little metal tags I don't see until I start painting quite a few which i fixed as best I could and continued on my way with the skin and blocking in colours, first one I'll show you is Gitsplitta's Captain Badrukk what a beast and really cool details like the chest of teef and teef as decoration on the collar of his Pirate coat! I did his skin the same as before except I didn't wash it with green, just Agrax and I need to also correct information i gave Theo a few days ago! I actually use CAMO GREEN for the skin and not The Army Painter one I said! sorry about that that aside I hope he's coming along nicely!

Captain Badrukk!:

The other model was Snikrot so so cool! I again followed the same recipe for his skin although as he's got more bare Ork flesh and is a Commando I imagined he either would be skulking through bushes and tight spaces or spending time hiding in a warzone for a time so I gave his shoulders and back some pinkish tinge as if he's either slightly sun burned or been wedged somewhere tight (a tank would be tight for this monster too!) next up will be more details like the face plate, not sure whether to go with lenses? or gently glowing from the inside? and colours? the other thing you may not notice is Mork's Teeth? I have done them black so they don't glint when he's sneakin' but I used Vallejo's Metallic Black paint Oh hell it's nice guys, perfect for Templars etc when I learn how to use it and highlight more again hope you like him too! I decided to delete his big ass backpack about half way through so my apologies if it's a bit rough.

Boss Snikrot:

Should have them both finished tomorrow and a couple other works in progress for my FleshEaters!

Cheers guys, still not what I'm really looking for any more ideas? I'm at a loss.

I find that adding a bit of an appropriately light or dark brown to the greens used tones them down nicely without making them look overly pale and desaturated. Scorched Brown into Orkhide Shade, (Snakebite) Leather Brown into Sick/Snot Green, Graveyard Earth into Goblin Green, etc. Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the new color designations, but I'm sure you can translate from old GW/VGC using the compatibility chart, if necessary.

Knarloc green (sorry for the old foundation names)
Then Gretchin green (old foundation name)
Start cutting the gretching green with bone white.
Finaly highlight should be pure bone white.

Might not quit be the tone your looking for...

Another option that is somewhat muted but still very green I use for the regular boyz and such is a charred brown basecoat, then warboss green followed by skarsnik green. The brown basecoat seems to mute it more than say using simply a dark green basecoat.
