Hey y'all, just wanted to hear your experiences with purchasing custom projects from BTP for warhammer 40k. Mid-July of 2013, I placed an order for a daemon prince and 12 thousand sons to be ordered, assembled, and painted in a 3/5 painting level. Its now the end of the year, and they haven't told me much but I don't believe they even have assembled the models. If they have them or not I do not know, but they have not sent me pictures. Whenever I email them, they are very friendly, but take about a week or two to respond. Finally past the point of patience, I called them today, and they said they didn't have my project on file, which is nothing to be worried about, because they don't put many of their projects on file according to the person on the phone. She said the guy that would know about my project was in a meeting and would call me back in a half hour. Three hours pass, and I call back and it goes to voicemail. They're a friendly bunch, and they make great stuff, but seriously getting a hold of them has been a huge pain and their advertised turn around time of 3-6 weeks has been far exceeded. Friendly as they have been, they don't seem very apologetic and I don't feel like I'll get any sort of discount off my purchase or store credit for all the trouble they've put me through. I'm hoping that I had a freak interaction with them, and that your stories can help me want to ever hear from them again. Thanks for sharing!

Did you send them models?
Did you pay?
Do you have a receipt?
If it was me I would ask for my models back as well as a refund. 4 months is to long imo and not keeping any sort of record of their projects seems unprofessional.

Warring souls I am also having a similar problem with warring souls. A long time with no updates. Worked hard to get the sale then nothing after they got my models. Ill give them a bit more time but frankly I have been put off using companies to paint my models. Better off with small time painters in my recent experience.
Good luck though.

I have paid their first deposit, I have not gotten a receipt, I did not send them models.
I have the payment in my bank records though.

My friend sent in an entire army and that gak took forever and they never provided him updates! It took him calling to realize they messed up and gave him like 5% off! He got his project back and gak was broken and it was a horrible paint job :(
My small project was painted horrible as well and was nowhere near the value of their painted "skills"
They might be friendly but they don't deliver in their projects!

Thank you for the post Mr. Raynor,
I'll be sure to never order from them again. They have such a great partnership with Miniwargaming and the stuff they give them is so great looking...I really shouldve done more research on them, I assumed them to be the top dogs when it came to this sort of thing.

Its my rule of thumb to avoid any sort of painting services like the plauge just for this reason. Sorry to hear about your difficulties with this painting company

I had a bad experience with my ork army. Poor communication, sub-standard quality compared to their example pics. I would never use them again.
I am actually surprised that they are still in business (well, most gamers are pretty nice, so they prolly don't post their poor experiences.)

I actually did my projects because I saw the work from miniwargaming. I too was super pumped about it until I got my models and was like this is not the same level of quality they provided to them! Heresy!

Mr. Raynor
I've heard this to quite commonly be the case with these guys, they'd be good for bulk work at best but they tend to use lower resolution pictures to try to hide imperfections in their work and make it appear better than it is.

Avoid BTP. We had a thread about their shady practices over a year ago, it's not worth it. They are also WAY to expensive for the quality they produce.
There are much better painters out their for your money than BTP. Bill Kim and Frontline gaming are both excellent, and I can personally vouch for them.

That's a real feat. Their example pictures are terrible, and intentionally made terrible by them. If your stuff looked worse than those, wow.

They updated there site earlier this year and have been uploading everything to Flicker which you can view at high resolution. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluetablepainting/

Thank you so much!
I like painting, but I'm really not that great at it and I lack the time to learn. I find it much easier just to pay someone else to do it. I'll check out Bill Kim and Frontline.

Mr. Raynor
before you say the painting sucked it would be useful to know how many models he had painted vs how much money he paid.
i need to decide if i should be sympathetic or not.

I've used BTP once & was overall happy with the results. The paint job was pretty exceptional. Granted, that is what I paid for (Level 7). I did however have to call them on a daily basis to find out what was going on with my project. It also took several months & the project size was relatively small.

I have not used them, but a guy at my FLGS has.
I remember him talking about the amount of time it took to get his models back, but he's been very pleased with the results. He did keep in touch with BTP throughout the process, calling them after they got his models, talking with one of the people who was doing the painting, talking with them before they did the shipping, etc. It was all we heard about for about 6 months.
His army is very nice but not amazing to look at. It's definitely above table-top standards, but not so much that I would go nuts about it.

I have 4 full armies painted by BTP. Pan-O Infinity, Tau, Retribution, and Cygnar, as well as several other single models. Was happy enough with the first army to do it 3 more times. I also had a good experience with their trade in program. Only for one of my projects was a delay an issue . I can post pics if you guys want of the work I've had done.

Since you live in Utah, you would have recourse. Maybe that caused them to care. That, or maybe you know them in real life, there for making them care.
