Okies guys bout to take a bit more than I can chew but hey should be fun and interesting. To get more people in my area to play 40k I'm going to build 5 1000 pt armies for people to use and just to challenge myself in painting them I'd like everyone to help me decide on what armies to build and the paint scheme. I know 1000 pts isn't a whole lot but it's good enough for small squad style skirmishes. That and I'm fronting all the money and time into it to let others learn to play and get them interested. So I already have a space marine assault squad and a space marine tactical squad in the closet. Let's here your suggestions on armies, paint scheme, and units if you have a good idea!

i did something similar with flames of war. Really helps people get into it!

Whats the budget roughly?

Also does it have to be GW only models?

For Armys that sum up 40k to draw people in I would recommend,

1 Elite SM army, maybe Dropod
2 Horde IG backed up with Tanks/ Arty (either or)
3 Horde Ork army (or) and Horde Tyraind army with MC support.
4. Tau or Eldar
5. Chaos with daemons (or) Necrons

If you realy want to go for this, I'd pick the following armies:

Marines
Tyranids
Tau
Orks
Dark Eldar.

I think these are the most Diverse and appealing to beginners. And there's something for almost everybody.
But why five???

Price isn't a problem so not worried about which units to buy or anything. The reason I picked five is I figured that would give people an option on what they wanted to play and try out without doing every army lol. Personally I play IG DKoK but alas no one really plays around me so just trying to help expand the hobby. If I can get some people started using small armies then maybe I can get them really into it. Starting out id like to stick with GW or forge world at least.

Very cool models.

1) Space Marines - They are iconic to the game, and everyone loves the good guys.

2) Tau - They have a great asthetic that many people can jive with.

3) Chaos - Also Iconic, but have that "I am not going to tell my mother what I did last night" vibe.

4) Tyranids - Very organic army.

5) Necrons- I dare you to find someone who doesn't like the terminator movies. Even if the first one wasn't your "thing." The second one showed us that even cold unfeeling killing machine soldiers have soul.

Marines - cus well... Marines! ... would go vanilla codex, or Dark Angels (starter set poster boys being cheapest to start collecting)

Imperial Guard - To highlight that the marines are infact superhuman.

Orks - The classic enemy for humans, really likable army as theyre clever, but in a kinda stupid way. Lots of irony and comedy to break up the grimdark.

Tyranids - Very non-humanoid alien race totally different aesthetic to the orks.

Eldar - the classic intelligent aliens.

Eldar could maybe swap to Tau, Guard maybe could swap to Chaos and still give a pretty wide range of tastes of 40k styles.


Having two imperial armies allows for 2 vs 2 games while keeping it fluffy too I suppose.

Five armies I would choose would be (in no particular order):
1 - Necrons (Elite)
2 - Tyrannids or Imperial Guard (Horde style)
3 - Chaos Daemons or another space marine type (TAC/Elite?)
4 - Eldar or Tau (Elite)
5 - Space Marines (TAC)

That would give them a variety of some of the more popular armies with some that are slightly more difficult to use (Daemons) and some easier ones and they can get a feel for a variety of play styles as well as learn the rules.

Space marines seem to be the go to army and poster boys so they defiantly will be in there gonna start on two squads tonight! Will post WIP Pics as soon as they are available.

Elder will be a good go to army so may have to lean that way with them for the elite like chiefbigredman and airy sticks said.

Seems like orks are one of the more popular armies as we'll so will have to look into them too. Have to agree with the comedic value to get people laughing. Saw a thread that had drunken orks and they were amazing ( sorry to whoever painted them For not remembering your name they were amazing!)

I would definitely say Necrons. You may find yourself losing steam painting five armies, but Crons can be painted quickly with a fairly basic scheme, and they're fairly cheap points-wise, so 1,000 points looks like a "big" army. Basic Cadian type IG fits that bill as well. I think it's great you're doing this to grow the hobby.
