So I sold my Orks, but kept the Waagh Boss on bike, 10 Nob Bikers, 20 Boyz, and several Deff Koptas. And I got a Stompa from Ebay for cheap. Its a great looking model.
Any suggestions how an Ork list with a Stompa should look like?
I'm looking in two ways:
1. Stompa gets accompanied by Trukkz and Battlewagons, or some Nob Bikers and Deff Koptas to accomplish a coordinated assault.
2. Stompa operates on its own with lumbering Boyz and Lootas giving fire support.

I would use it with the Imperial Armour Dread Mob list, for flavor.
But really, the stompa's tough and hits like a trukk, so it can handle itself. Run whatever you like, and it can't be too bad!

Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
The Stompa has a lot of hull points but only mediocre armour, so filling it up with meks is the best way to keep it alive. If you don't want to use a Big Mek for HQ, I would say definitely put 3x Loota squads of 5-6 inside, each with 3 Meks. That will allow you to regenerate 4-5 hull points per turn, making the Stompa incredibly resilient against most shooting. This is about 1000 points all told, so if you're at 1750 or higher you could easily fit a modest Nob Biker Squad and a big unit of boyz. The Nob Bikers provide a distraction - they're tough to shift, so the opponent has to choose between letting the Stompa run riot or letting the Nob Bikers run riot. If you are in a FW-friendly area, a Flakk Trukk would also be a good addition for the anti-air if you can fit one in.

In my experience, stompas are pretty weak to melta. so having a unit or two of boyz around it isn't a bad idea. The stompa's effigy rule also makes gretchin or MANz near it a lot more reliable due to no longer having to worry about leadership. Trukk boyz also work pretty well for that reason, your opponent has to kill every last one of them instead of just running them down after a lucky turn of combat.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

I second a Flakk mounted vehicle to add some AA ability and some Boyz for bubblewrap. It is the best of the 'Scout' titans for close combat, but it can still get bottled up with how slow it is.

For 2k points my friend runs a Stompa, four trukks and a squad of nob bikers and a warboss, with a Big Mek in the Stompa. Beats my guard (which lacks a Baneblade) almost every time, at least.

Can't you run a Stomapa in a normal game if you take BuzzGob as your HQ? Pretty sure I had read this or heard it somewhere. Thanks.

Sorry, I was wrong about that, he used to, but now Buzzgob lets you take Dread mobs and different types of walkers as troops/ FA and HQ while using Codex Orks.

If i was to run a list (outside of FW, because dreadmob is awesome, but no FW is allowed at my FLGS) it would be
Big meks x 4, with KFF on at least one.
Stompa
Deffdredds as troops x 4
Killa Kanz x 9 +
Lootas/Burnas inside the hull of the stompa. 3 as meks for repairs, 2 others to shoot out of the firepoints.
Not the most competitive list, but an all walker list is always awesome.

Indeed, a very fluffy list. A Bigmek w/ KFF should be mandatory.

Hi all!
Was just about to post the same question when I discovered this post..
I picked up a Stompa only a few days ago and I'm looking at incorporating it into a list more out of fun, whilst still trying to be slightly competitive.
I like the idea of have lootas and meks in the Stompa, so I'd take 2-3 loota squads +Big mek with KFF
I don't have any Nob Bikers unfortunately, so was thinking about possibly a BW Nobz and another BW with either 'Ard Boyz or Burnerz, with 2 squads of 25 shoota boyz.
Haven't worked out points, but I could massage it a bit
Thanks in advance!

No, until escalation Stompas were always Armageddon. Buzzgob lets you take Dread mobs and different types of walkers as troops/ FA and HQ while using Codex Orks.
That's not what his rules used to say. He was a HQ choice for Dread Mobs and simply had a rule which allowed him to come riding a stompa, without any limitations. The update clarified that rule, so its no longer possible anyways.

Thanks for the correct, sorry about that. (I must has missed that, or just dismissed it subconsciously as being too out there.) Does anyone know if that was just unclear phrasing, or was it actually FW's intention for you to drop a stompa into a normal game of 40k?
As noted, they just updated the Mek list anyway:

Yeah its doesn't matter now that they updated it, but in all honesty, I doubt I have ever checked to see an update on ANY FW material. Its just so rare that any of it actually gets fielded. But the Ork Wlaker list is so awesome, to bad about spanna boys being horrible...

In my FOTM heavy meta, there's lots of in your face grav gun lists. Therefore, I ran a stompa filled with 3x5 lootas, 3 of them as meks in each squad. Big Mek as HQ inside with KFF. 4 fire points let 4 of the lootas shoot, too!
Finished it off with 2x30 ork boys and a pack of grots to super duper bubble wrap, a deff rolla battlewagon roaming around empty running stuff over and deffkoptas causing chaos against a grav spam alpha strike bike list. I put my stompa in one corner completely wrapped in all directions 24 inches and just crashed bodies of orks into his alpha strikers while the stompa blew up his backfield.
It. Was. Glorious.

I can only imagine the immense amounts of "Waagh!" you heard. I've been fielding Killa Kans recently and have found the walking wall of armour to be effective in a different way. Completely denying your opponent routes of avenue is an extremly effective tool.

Kan wall is good but Dread wall is better. If you want this route go a Dred Mob from IA8. The new update is out and its a free download from Forgeworld. Having an entire Army of AV12+ walkers will deny the enemy enmy S5 or lower attack via shooting or Combat.

The Dreads cannot keep up with the Stompa when he's marching across the field. Nevertheless, the codex: Dread Mob looks quite interesting.
