Hey All,

Been playing 40k for a while and have just gotten a little over the constant releasing of more gak and all the constant vitriol that seems to flow about that game.

I've always liked the undead (started a undead mordheim crew a while ago which I enjoyed modelling).

Anyway I've been playing with the skeleton regiment and have a had a lot of fun jig-sawing them into a sort of double ranked spear wall (front row of short spears levelled, then second row (grip reversed coming over the top with eventually the thirt row andgeled and what ever row after that straight up)

Anyway after all that blathering, as I'm currently modelling was just wondering what the ideal (doesn't need to be the most uber build etc) sort of rank X file build on skeletons was just to start building back.

Thanks in advance,

Vampire Counts or Tomb Kings?

It matters a little bit, but with spears people either run them in a horde (10 wide, 5 deep) or a bus (5 wide, 7 or 8 deep)

Ah its the VC ones

Also thanks mate!

Just wondering what the etiquette is as the spears are probably a tad over a rank deep before the skeletons. Should I make the movement tray a mite longer than the spears so when they lock into combat the enemy formation can still square up or does it not matter?

Cheers,

I've seen it handled a few ways. Most of the time people just put them as close together as they can and make a call visually. I have seen others keep a few blank movement trays about and use those to figure out the attacks and whatnot before the models close in. (These are also handy for templates.)

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the best way to run skeletons is hand weapon + shield, for that parry save. However, spears can be useful and are pleasing aesthetically, so if you do indeed run a spear block, you may as well make use of that extra rank of attacks and go in a horde (10 wide) of at least 40 models. You could go in a bunker (5 wide, many deep), but it does depend on what you want from the unit and what else you've got in your army.

It's worth mentioning that, for VC at any rate, you shouldn't spend too much on core. In fact, you should spend as little as possible. So don't be dumping too many points into your skeleton unit if you want to include other core units.
