Hey dakka, I got the DGI bundle for christmas, along with an avalancher I bought today. Other than the two warcasters, what should I be buying next? Probably doing Four Star or Searforge, I like the dwarves.

I don't know much about Gorten, but if you list the contents of the bundle you got then people will be able to provide you more informed opinions.

If Gorten is the one that puts up a linear obstacle, he's also deadly with those little gun bunnies.

The models above, along with what you already have, will make a great Durgen list. Even if you don't play Durgen consider the solo in bold. Other models to consider would be Gorman DiWulfe, Nyss hunters, and Sylys Wyshnylaar.

Rhupert carvolo would be great to get so you can grant tough and pathfinder to your forgeguard or kayazy, and Dougalle macnaile boosts AOE attacks so he will support your earthbreaker really well.

As a warcaster Gorten has horrible focus management problems (i.e. he doesn't have much to manage and a lot of upkeeps and hungry jacks to feed). The dwarf jacks are reasonably efficient overall, at least the light ones are, so that helps soothe the issue somewhat, but the main priority is dealing with those limitations (the battlebox is bad for that by the way. Gorten should not be running all those jacks by himself with no support or infantry).

The good news is that help exists in the form of Thor Steinhammer (pretty awesome jack marshal that can take a lot of the burden off Gorten by running a couple jacks almost as well as he can) and the other elf guy whose name starts with an S and I need to look up on google whenever I want to write it (who can keep an upkeep going for free every turn, effectively giving Gorten one more focus...i.e. making him below average instead of horrible)

P.S. I would really consider four star over searforge. Being able to take the extra options is better than the advance deploy. A Kayazi unit that can't be knocked down and is immune to blast damage...seems pretty good.

I think he runs highborn better than any other contract but then you can't take kayazy. And Thor steinhammer should probably be an auto include in any and all dwarf lists.

Alright everybody, it was requested I shared exactly what I have. So as of now, I've got:

Gorten
Earthbreaker
Kayazy Assassins + UA
Thor Steinhammer
Goblin Tinker
Avalancher

And I've got Durgen, a pair of gunners, driller and forge guard all coming in over the course of the next week.

Durgen Madhammer with the kayazy assassins would be a damn lethal combo. Their armor already sucks so the debuff doesnt really matter and the bonus to MAT and POW turns takes their offense to absurd levels. I believe it puts them at effective MAT11 with gang, plus they are fast and you could get rhupert corvalo to grant them pathfinder or +1 DEF.

I think your next option for expansion should be Rhupert Corvalo. He can work for either highborn or 4 star contract and he gives you access to Pathfinder and toughness, two things your lists severely lack

You could pickup reinholdt and master gunner doug and run them with madhammer and the earthbreaker for a nice list.
