I am curious as to how many people have played with the new Escalation and Stronghold assault games. Did you play with D-weapons? What are your experiences with them? Was the game fun? Did you win or loose? Would you play them again?
I would like to read actual experience, tired of reading all the math hammering going on right now. Still on the fence if I should be getting Escalation and Stronghold assault as a Tyranid and DA player.

I am getting back into 40K gaming Shingen, I will try and get a game in 2014, where I haven't bothered since 2012.
Me and my son have a project where we will make hills, and buildings for our terrain. So we will be making large obstacles to hopefully have lots of blocking LOS.
I am more worried about having fun, not winning or losing. So that is why I want to see if D-weapons are fun or not. I don't see just removing a bunch of minis, off the table. I also know not to go by hype, so want to read actual experience from people who played them.

Look in the battle reports forum, there are quite a few escalation/stronghold batreps out now. It seems that generally most people aren't playing either of them, but it really depends on your local area.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment. |

They are a bit annoying. The lack of even an invul save is stupid.

I played on a team with one back in july sometime. I didnt do much because the revenant killed all my targets and more. The game ended before turn 3 with most of our eldar forces just giving up movement because well there was no point.
Then about a month before escalation my necron friend played against the revenant again. He killed the titan through his massed glancing but by the time the titan was felled the necrons where almost dead and the remaining eldar sweeped up and killed him.
It makes games very short.

Played a few games so far. One of them had me with an Eldar Scorpion.
Destroyed whole swathes of his army before the end. Still, with proper spacing he could only kill one unit per turn.
That said, the games where we both had superheavies WITHOUT D-weapons were much more enjoyable and lasted longer. The superheavies were just bigger/badder tanks then instead of engines of D-destruction.

Played a fun game with an Eldar Titan, 5K a side.
D weapons are nasty when they hit, but they do scatter and you need to be careful not to hit your own side.
The titan couldn't hit anything that was flying, so flyers are safe from it.
And one turn it missed everything completely and spent the turn destroying trees instead.
In conclusion, what the Eldar Titan hits, it destroyed. However it can only hit two units a turn, and by turn 4 it had lost 8 hull points, but for some reason it refused to lose the last one.

Played an escalation game today, 2k SW/BA vs Necrons. I got destroyed. His C'tan had the ability to take out my entire army on it's own with little recourse from me. Not a fan of escalation in regular 40k. Really seemed like a case of pay to win imo. He paid for the books and whatnot, got the c'tan, and 80% of my army couldn't even touch it, and the rest he could destroy at whim. His 8-900 points was worth more than my 2k. Maybe it's just the c'tan, but in general I don't see how it would be fun.

Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

I played against D weapons yesterday and I proxied a Gargantuan Creature on my side. My GC was killed in turn 1 before doing anything by just getting D-ed to death. The rest of the game was just clean up for my opponents.
The problem is the chart that they roll on. The amount of wounds that D weapons can inflict is just so impressive for the points.
