Hello Everyone,

I recently got back into the warmahorde scene and picked up Cryx I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions for a paint scheme. I am an okay painter not looking for anything super difficult but different for Cryx that would still look good on the table besides their normal paint scheme. I have the same question for Cygnar because I like the blue and white but if possible would do a different scheme. Looking for suggestions for both Cryx and Cygnar and input would be really appreciated.

IMO, what makes Cryx look good is being dirty and grimey and looking like they have been sitting in a forest for a few years.

Not sure of your skill level, but a really easy way to do this is with a dk brown wash. You can do a simple paintjob and then the wash will make it all come together. It is pretty darn easy and makes them look like they've been painted by someone with a lot more skill. And it works on pretty much whatever color(s) you decide to go with.

so I could go with the basic paint scheme and add that and it would look different at least. What is your thoughts with using purple instead of green and what is another good way to do the armor because I feel like everyone does it the same way and I want my battle group to look different.

I was going to use purple for my Cryx, but had already painted my Cygnar purple.

So I went with green, which was OK, but have slowly started using more and more grey.

Here is an earlier pic from my "green" period.

And here is one from my new "gray" period.

And something that incorporates both as a tweener.

Hopefully that gives you some ideas.

Also check around the internets. There are painting albums and old threads here on Dakka. And the PP forums have a painting forum as well as the Cryx forum for more ideas.

And then what I do is if I find something I like I ask the person how they got a certain effect or scheme. I'd say my painting skills are good, but I am nowhere near a golden demon or studio paintjob. But trying new things is how you get better.

I do mine very simple yet fairly effective. Mainly due to skill level but also due to attention levels (If I spend too much time on a single miniature then it usually gets shelved! )

Black spray undercoat.
Dry drush some gunmetal on the plates.
Dry brush some bronze/gold on trims and fixings.
Pick out bone bits.
Wash whole thing with brown wash.
Add a few highlights on the metal/gold.
Add in some glowy detail bits with greens.
Maybe add some symbols/runes.
Base.
Spray Matte Varnish.
Add some gloss to the green bits.

Done!

It ends up fairly close to the original scheme but without the skill/time requirement!

Here is a shot of a jack and a unit. When it comes to units I tend to leave the armor metallic. I have never been a big fan of colored armor.

For the purple I used Lich Purple from GW. Then used a purple wash on top of it. Then finally did very light drybrushing of antique pink. The pink works surprisingly well and you should be able to see it on the stormwall and the base of the lances.

Very similar to what I do. But I actually get a bit more complicated on the armor and paint a terracotta first then stipple on the silver. It gives the armor a more rusted look. I also don't add gloss to the green parts. I find they tend to be pretty bright on their own and if I want them brighter I apply a thin yellow wash. The yellow provides a pretty good "glow"

I was thinking this as I wrote it out. Very similar indeed! Your Deathjack looks awesome! I really need to pick one up at some point!

That Colossal looks amazing as well! Its most definitely the best one out the lot model wise... I cant stand the Cryx one but I'm not too fussed as I don't play enough to warrant that kind of purchase anymore anyway!
