Ok I've decided to try a tau list with what may perhaps may be some relatively bad units.

Hq

Shadow Sun - 135

Elites

2 x 6 stealth suits - 360

Riptide - HBC, Fusion, VT - 200


Troops

3 x 10 kroot + hound - 195

Fast Attack

2 x 2 Piranha - fusion - 200

6 Path finders - 66


Heavy Support

Sky Ray - 115

3 x Broadsides - EWO + SMS + HYMP - 210

Theres 25 points left but the general idea is there; shadow sun + stealth suits being the main players. The unit he's with can move pretty quickly, screened by the piranha's drones, they can also benefit from a 3+ cover save up field. Now the list is about making my opponent feel uncomfortable and counter-striking, changing position, reacting to threats and getting behind gunlines etc. Although I think theres still alot of tweeting that needs to be done, like dropping the 2nd unit of stealth suits and 2 piranhas for either a riptide + extra sky ray ( possibly a buffmander) or adding in eldar/ grey knight allies ( farseer + Jetbikes or Cortez + Plasma servitors + Shunting Dreadknight ).

Let me know what you all think, comments are welcome and please excuse the poor typing.

If you're going allies, I'd go farseer jetbike. But I think the list is pretty good as is.
If your found 5pt somewhere you could get an ADL - that's always an auto-include for my tau

Stealth suits are soooooo squishy. I love the models and the idea but, squish squish squish. It's worth a try, and I would love to see the battle report. Maybe think about adding fusion into the team shadowsun won't be with. Dropping 20 dice is awesome but I think you need more ap. if you really want to try something wicked I know there is a trick you can do with piranhas. You need 4 to pull it off. You surround a unit with the piranhas leaving only 2 inches between them then tank shock with the 4th. They have no choice but to death or glory due to the "cannot be within 1" of an enemy model rule." In the event you surrounded a tank, bye bye tank.

Or maybe it only works on tanks. I forget. I don't use this personally, but if you doing a for fun list it would be worth a try. Imagine the shock on your opponents face when you explain why his land raider is kaput.

Okay, so first of all mss is better than fb on a hbc riptide, it has better synergy and you have more than enough melta in your list. 2nd your pathfinders are costed wrong, they are 11 points each so it would be 66 for 6 not 55. 3rd you really want ewo on your sides to drop the hurt on deepstrikers/pods and flyers. Also try and give them a shas'vre for extra ld and some missle drones for ablative wounds

Ahh cheers for spotting that, the riptide is kitted out for a anti light vehicle/ air craft role, but I'll definitely give both a try.

Yeah I figured the big downside to stealth suits are their T3, but I'm hoping my opponent will see my riptide and go after him instead ( that's whys his in the list).

I'm not a big fan of ADL's since i hate static gun-lines, although they'd go well with the broadsides.

Love the BurstTide and Stealth Suits. Fun list. The plus side is people won't hate you!

Don't forget you can fire your mss as ripple and still fire your hbc, that's 16 shots being pumped out, and if it's for light vehicle then 8 str 5 shots twin linked are not to be underestimated

If you want your Riptide to be AA why doesn't he have an EWO? Just don't expect him to be any good against flyers. Against AV11 he's alright should do almost 2 HPs (where as the Broadsides would do 2.44 for the same points with out VTs get an ML hit on there and the Broadsides basically auto-kill the flyer doing 4.44 HPs).

Piranhas generally work better in greater numbers. Pathfinders could probably be dropped as they're just giving up FB.

Sky ray wants a BSF and probably a buddy.

Don't expect good players to shoot at your Riptide. If you want him to be a bullet magnet you'll need a Buffmander/Mark'o and an Ion otherwise can just won't do enough damage for good players to bother shooting him until they've killed the rest of your army.

Also by not using the most effective units you mean using Stealth suits as basically everything else in your list are the most competitive units just not taken with all the best wargear and not supported adequately.

I think three units if Kroot as the totality of your troops plus the stealth suits leaves you vulnerable. Also Shadowsun is female, just FYI.

If you are bringing in allies, you defo want to be thinking in terms of scoring units that can claim/contest late in the day. Jet bikes or flyers? Or are v resilient and can park on your home objectives. You have to score to win.
